Quoting: 3 Reasons Why Linux Made Me a Better Developer —
Perhaps you're a developer or just have a passion for Linux? While Linux means something different to everyone, one thing that I've come to believe is that the freedom to craft a custom system allows Linux users to flourish. I outline three reasons why Linux has allowed me to flourish.
I wasn't a developer when I first started using Linux many moons ago. I dabbled in Python and wrote plenty of Bash scripts, but I was never a developer. However, after my first year on Ubuntu, out of sheer curiosity (and ego), I switched to Arch Linux. Arch taught me how to manage and build minimalist systems. After many installations, I realized that installing Arch isn't very difficult—it's mostly about making base-system decisions (like partition layout) and selecting how you want to set up your graphical environment. Repeating this process made me both comfortable and familiar with a bare Linux shell. For the next year or two, I dabbled in more complex projects, such as Gentoo and building purpose-made Linux systems. It was crucially practical and fun.
