No More Snakes: Serpent OS Rebrands as AerynOS
Quoting: No More Snakes: Serpent OS Rebrands as AerynOS —
With a surprise announcement named “Evolve This OS,” Ikey Doherty, leader of the still-in-development rolling release Linux distro Serpent OS, announced a major rebranding effort, and more specifically, the project now adopts the more welcoming name AerynOS.
He said the decision to abandon the original name was motivated by concerns about the word “serpent’s” negative and somewhat intimidating associations. A quick clarification for our readers: In the Bible, the serpent in the Garden of Eden represents temptation, sin, and Satan.

Pronounced like “Erin”, it’s a name that we feel is more befitting of the project. Pulling from multiple etymologies, it’s a name that better describes the project now versus the project that started as Serpent OS.
“Aer” is rather obvious, Latin in origin. The phonetic “Erin” is a nod to the Irish roots of the project, and of course a home. There are a number of reasons for the name, which will form part of the initial documentation on the new website.

Before It Even Gets a Stable Release, Serpent OS Changes Its Name To AerynOS - FOSS Force
Serpent OS, a Linux distro that just recently reached alpha, announced on Friday that it’s changing its name to AerynOS. In most cases, that would be the story — a distro in the birthing stage is changing its name — but in this case the story is the guy behind the distro, which is Ikey Doherty.
There’s been a long queue forming for more than three years for the first stable release of Serpent OS, mainly because it’s the brainchild of Doherty. It’s supposed to be the next-gen, better-than-Solus-OS-distro coming out of what I’ve seen called, “the Ikey Brand.”
Ikey, it seems, has a reputation as being the creator of great Linux distros. He also has a reputation of suddenly abandoning his creations due to… well, mainly money issues.
