KDE neon 6.2 Is Out with KDE Plasma 6.2 Desktop, Based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Based on a long-term supported Ubuntu release and featuring the latest KDE software and Plasma desktop environment, the KDE neon distribution uses a rolling release model where users do not have to download new ISO images or reinstall their systems.

KDE Frameworks 6.7 Released with Performance Optimizations and Improvements

Highlights of KDE Frameworks 6.7 include support for adding templates to the “Create New…” menu of the Plasma desktop and Dolphin file manager by placing files in the ~/Templates directory, a redesigned “sleep and screen locking are inhibited” icon, and support for showing elided text labels in a tooltip on hover throughout System Settings’ grid views.

Linux Kernel 6.10 Reaches End of Life, It’s Time to Upgrade to Linux Kernel 6.11

Linux kernel 6.10 was released on July 14th, 2024, introducing new features like a new mseal() system call for memory sealing, Rust language support for the RISC-V architecture, Zstandard compression support for the EROFS file system, shadow stack support for the x32 subarchitecture, TPM bus encryption and integrity protection, initial support for setting up PFCP (Packet Forwarding Control Protocol) filters, and more.

Originally a fork of the blazing-fast Blackbox window manager from the early 2000s, Openbox has been entirely rewritten in the meantime and is now one unique piece of code. This simple and highly flexible window manager is part of Mabox Linux, a Manjaro stable-based distro that also comes with the tint2 panel/taskbar and the Jgmenu X11-inspired menu, which was designed with scripting, ricing, and tweaking in mind. Yesterday, Mabox Linux received a refresh that took its version number up to 24.09.

For now, there is no release announcement available anywhere. However, the SourceForge repository includes a text file that contains the list of packages included and the version number of each one. The size of the ISO file is 2.5 GB, and the list of updated packages (compared to those in version 24.08, which was released on August 22nd) includes the following highlights...
