GNU/Linux at 4% of the Desktop/Laptop Market, According to Several Independent Surveys of Web-Connected Clients
THE rapid growth of GNU/Linux around the planet fascinates us. Sometimes we do short articles about it. Today we focus on no one country in particular.
These 2-decade old "OS Platform Statistics" show GNU/Linux at 4%, as do the numbers from statCounter.
We tend to focus on statCounter because as far as we know no other firm tracks this sort of stuff anymore (some used to but stopped).
In Hungary, GNU/Linux is up to about 4% and in Singapore they're touching 5% for GNU/Linux if one counts ChromeOS as well. In Indonesia GNU/Linux can hit 5% this year and it's true in Malaysia also.
4% is said to be the international average, but not all countries are "equal".
In India, Windows is below 15% (Android dominates) and Bing at 1%.
Maybe by 2025 GNU/Linux will be above 5% internationally, attracting investment. █
