Huawei introduces XMFS memory file system for modern Linux servers
Huawei has launched a new experimental cross-node memory file system, named XMFS, for modern Linux servers running on CXL 3.0 or the Huawei UnifiedBus connectivity. It has debuted as a new alternative to memory-based file systems.
XMFS, or eXpress Memory File System, made its first public appearance at LPC 2026 in Czechia. It is a new file system designed for Linux servers on CXL 3.0 or Huawei UnifiedBus technology.

Linux Just Found a Way to Make Compressed Memory 452x Faster
Adding DRAM to a memory-constrained server is expensive; Meta engineer Gregory Price is proposing a faster alternative. His Compressed RAM Service proposal, presented at the Linux Plumbers Conference in Prague in October 2026, reached approximately 489 million operations per second in read-only benchmarks against roughly 1.1 million for ZRAM, a reported difference of about 452x under that specific workload.
