"Decay of FOSS"
Today Andy speaks of a "Decay of FOSS", wherein he refers to the state of things in Ardour:
Today I am trying to build Ardour from source. I feel like things have regressed to a state similar to the late twentieth circa 1999. Impossible dependency trees. Badly broken build tools that fight each other. A dozen incompatible and arcane install tools: waf, pip. Locked forums. Tease-ware versions! WTF? Each time compiler fails on a different random thing. Loads of outdated tutorials that no longer relevant for old versions. Have we passed peak FOSS?
What was wrong with
$ ./configure && make && make install
In my experience, this was never easy. Not even 25 years ago. █
