Vincent Bernat ☛ Hacking the Go compiler to efficiently map IPv4 to IPv6
netip.Addr features an Unmap() method returning the unwrapped IPv4 contained in an IPv4-mapped IPv6 address: from ::ffff:203.0.113.10 or ::ffff:cb00:710a, it returns 203.0.113.10. There is no Map() or To6() method for the reverse direction. Such a method is trivial to implement, but Go maintainers have rejected it on the grounds that users should write netip.AddrFrom16(ip.As16()) and let the compiler optimize it. Today, this pattern is eight times slower than a native method. How can we teach the compiler to optimize this sequence?

PCLinuxOS Magazine ☛ Inkscape Tutorial: Create A Letter Logo
This tutorial allows you to edit a letter to make it a bit fancier for a logo. It uses the Shape Builder tool very effectively. Let’s get started!
Draw your letter with the text tool. Change the font if needed. This project looks good with a plain, thick font. I used Bitstream Vera Sans. The tutorial I referenced used the letter A, but I used an H. Change to the Selection tool and resize it to the size you desire (mine’s about 200) and zoom in.

PCLinuxOS Magazine ☛ All The Tools You Need To Record OTA TV Broadcasts & Edit Out The Ads
Last month, I wrote about how to use mpv to watch OTA television broadcasts. This month, let’s talk about how to record OTA television broadcasts via your TV tuner card, and then how to edit out the ads or commercials.
As I stated last month, mpv has become my go-to tool for watching OTA television broadcasts. But, for recording those OTA television broadcasts, it’s hard to beat Kaffeine for ease of use.
To get started, you will need to install Kaffeine and Avidemux. The latter is installable from the PCLinuxOS repository via the DNF Package Manager. As for the former, I’m using the Flatpak version of Kaffeine. Of course, you will also need a TV tuner card. Mine is a KWorld KW-UB435-Q V3 USB TV tuner card, and it works perfectly. I picked mine up from eBay for a pretty low price.
