HowTo Geek ☛ Why the ISO is becoming irrelevant to modern Linux (and how the cloud took its place)
For years, downloading an ISO was the first step to running Linux. Today, most installations begin elsewhere: in virtual machines, cloud platforms and automated pipelines. Here's why the good ol' installer image is losing ground, how cloud-ready images are threatening to replace it, and where the ISO still earns its place.

Kubernetes Blog ☛ Scaling Kubernetes Workloads with Node Swap
Memory is often the first hard limit a Kubernetes cluster hits.
Nodes run out of RAM long before they run out of CPU, and the new wave of agentic Hey Hi (AI) workloads makes this worse.

AMD has begun preparing Linux for RDNA 5 with support for GFX12.1 and SMU 15
AMD has released a large pool of AMD driver patches.GPU for integration into the Linux 7.4 kernel. The update focuses on adding support for hardware blocks of next-generation graphics chips well before their official release. The code now includes developments for the GFX12.1 graphics engine, the VPE 3.0 video processing subsystem, the DCN 6.0 display controller, and the SMU 15 power management controller. Additionally, system bus and memory subsystem components have been implemented, including MMHUB 5.0 and NBIF 7.10. Although the chipmaker does not directly confirm the specific lineup of each block RDNA 5, architectural indices indicate the formation of the foundation for the company's future consumer products.

Russell Coker ☛ Russell Coker: Kdeconnect DBUS
I’ve tested the DBUS interfaces for Kdeconnect (the system for connecting a KDE desktop to a phone or another computer). Unlike most DBUS interfaces it has a significant tree of interfaces so the busctl command to get the tree is important. Here’s the useful things I discovered: [...]

The Ironclad Project ☛ Ironclad's Blog - Introducing Open Sound System (OSS) support to Ironclad
Sound is a core part of modern computer usage. We spend our days watching videos and streams, listening to music as a companion to our day to day lives, and Ironclad has failed at exposing good audio interfaces to userland, until now that is!
Ironclad has introduced support for the Open Sound System (OSS), a free software audio infrastructure traditionally present in many Unix-like systems like Linux, *BSDs, and the like.

GamingOnLinux ☛ Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 2GB get price increases due to RAM demand | GamingOnLinux
The RAM crisis continues to deepen thanks to the mass hardware buying from data centres, with Raspberry Pi yet again raising some prices. So much for the really cheap single-board computer idea huh?

Neowin ☛ 7 Days: Linux project renamed, big Firefox update, and Apple's $5.7 billion fine
A hot news from the week was about the Linux-based distro, postmarketOS. If you haven't heard this name, its makers won't be surprised. That's why they decided to rebrand it to Nura after nearly a decade of existence. They decided on the new name because the older one was simply way too long, hard to pronounce, and very easy to mistype with its bizarre mid-word letter casing.
