Linux Mint 22.2 “Zara” Is Available for Public Beta Testing, Download Now

Codenamed “Zara”, Linux Mint 22.2 introduces an HWE (Hardware Enablement) kernel, just like the upstream Ubuntu release, which should boost hardware support, fingerprint authentication for all supported editions via a new Fingwit app, accent color support, improved libAdwaita compatibility, and theme updates.

Amarok 3.3.1 Music Player Released with Improvements to Scripting Support

Amarok 3.3 arrived last month as the first release to be fully ported to Qt 6, offering users a modern UI/UX experience. Now, Amarok 3.3.1 is here to improve scripting support by enabling saving and loading of script console items, autocompletion in the script console, and re-enabling additional scripting functionality.

Linus Torvalds Announces First Linux Kernel 6.17 Release Candidate

Two weeks have passed since the release of Linux kernel 6.16, which means that Linux 6.17’s merge window is now closed, and the time has come to test drive the Release Candidate (RC) development versions, which will be published every Sunday until the final release in about two months from today.

HackerBox 0117 RFID Lab Explores Dual-Frequency RFID and NFC

The kit supports both high-frequency (13.56 MHz) and low-frequency (125 kHz) operation. Included tags range from S50 Mifare Classic cards and rewritable T5577 cards to an NTAG215 NFC chip embedded on a custom PCB dog tag. Additional components include a two-channel logic level shifter, SMD resistors, mounting hardware, and a silicone dog tag silencer.

CachyOS is one of those Arch-made-easy Linux distros that's made a lot of waves in recent Linux history. Since CachyOS is a rolling release distro, this OS image is simply a "snapshot" of CachyOS you can download, install, and update. It's cryptically called "250713" though it becomes less cryptic when you realize it was released on July 13, 2025.

CachyOS 250713 comes with a refreshed installer that adds the ability to choose either Fish or Zsh as the shell in place of the default Bash. Installations of CachyOS KDE Plasma are now defaulting to Wayland in most cases, save for those relying on legacy Nvidia graphics drivers, which still require Xorg.

This snapshot also adds several gaming-oriented changes to proton-cachyos, the customized version of the Proton compatibility layer that CachyOS itself maintains. The changes include improvements to anti-cheat compatibility, anti-lag mitigations for latency, and an FSR 4 upgrade for games that support AMD FSR 3.1.
