Ruben Schade ☛ Reintroducing 4 TB drives into our FreeBSD server
One of the primary purposes for our homelab FreeBSD box is for data backups and storage for myself, Clara, and our family. Just over four years ago to the day, we replaced a couple of 4 TB Western Digital Blues with two 12 TB drives. It’s always a good day when you can replace a drive because you’re adding capacity, not because you’ve had a failure.
I don’t know if you’ve seen the price of, well, everything in the space recently, but we needed some additional capacity recently. We have an LSI HBA controller now, so we’re not lacking for SATA ports. So for now, I added them back.

It involves setting up multiple disks and creating a disk unit from them. The current NetBSD RAIDframe framework supports several levels of disks arrangement in a single array, see raid(4).

[Old] NetBSD ☛ netbsd-advocacy: NetBSD and my life...
At first it was hard. The other admins had no clue how to use NetBSD. However, with the time we spent fixing the Windows servers, we now had spare time. I began to show them how to configure things and they actually took a personal interest. They installed it at home and began to tinker with it, making sure they understood how to compile kernels etc etc. You know the stuff am talking about! I even printed the whole handbook out for us.
Our whole Network was now running NetBSD.
