As this is the third (and likely final) release candidate before GIMP 3.2 launches, the focus is on refinement. The developers say RC3 delivers “a number of bug fixes and final polishes”, improving on the new features added in earlier dev and beta builds.
The changes I’ve pilled out below were made between RC2 to RC3. If you’ve not tracked this cycle’s development, don’t come away thinking this is an overview of what’s new in GIMP 3.2 as a whole – I’ll recap the big stuff again when the stable release arrives.

GIMP image editor announced the third RC release for the next 3.2 major version last night!
This is probably the last development release before the final GIMP 3.2, which is due next week (Mar 14, 2026) according to the issue.
This RC improved user experience by changing the way that Welcome Dialog appears. It will no longer show the Welcome Dialog when you launch GIMP with an image either from ‘open with’ context menu or command line.
