"No Kings" in Free Software
Leadership in Free Software depends on the willingness of developers to follow it. If this so-called 'leadership' acts in bad faith, developers can fork their work (project) and start afresh elsewhere. This adds an element of collective responsibility and accountability.
Licensing in Free Software, especially with copyleft as the "gold standard", can ensure no single group can gain advantage by withholding code from another group. That's necessary in avoidance of abuse of power.
GAFAM may think it 'owns' such projects (e.g. by bribing them or enticing them to use proprietary GitHub), but in reality it's a lot more complex. However, if your project or a project you rely on is stuck in GitHub, then Microsoft is your king. █
