Software Heritage has been building a universal archive of source code since Inria launched the project in 2016. It crawls GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and a long tail of smaller forges, plus package registries and distro sources, and stores what it finds in one deduplicated Merkle DAG. As I write this that DAG holds about 30 billion source files, 23 billion directories and 6 billion commits from 445 million origins.
