Void Phone VX1 promises data privacy thanks to Linux, hard switch for camera, microphone and 5G
The Void Phone VX1 is based on the FuriPhone FLX1s but comes with software customizations for enterprise customers. Therefore, the Linux smartphone is supposed to appeal to an additional group of buyers, as Mobile Device Management (MDM) makes it easier to manage a larger number of smartphones, which may require installing software remotely or resetting the device.
The smartphone runs on FuriOS, which is a mobile Debian variant. Void Phone emphasizes that no data is stored on servers abroad and that software can be installed without going through the Google Play Store. One distinctive feature is a hardware switch on the side that disables the cameras, microphones and wireless connections to ensure that no sensitive data is recorded or transmitted. However, the remaining hardware is somewhat outdated.
Specifically, the Void Phone VX1 is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 900 from 2021, which is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. The latter can be expanded via microSD. The 6.7-inch IPS panel has a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. Moreover, Void Phone opted for a 13MP front-facing camera, a 20MP f/1.8 main camera and a 2MP sensor. The battery has a capacity of 5,000mAh.
