Ubuntu Engages in Self Harm

Yesterday it was mentioned that Ubuntu had fallen down in rankings and even got labeled a distro to avoid 2 days ago ("These 4 Linux distros are a bad idea — avoid them at all costs"). Raghav Sethi said that Ubuntu is "[b]ecoming the very thing it swore to destroy".
I struggle to understand why Canonical would want to eliminate working programs with some Rust experiments from Microsoft's GitHub. It didn't improve security, it just broke all sorts of things. The next release will make some more changes, replacing some "old" software with "more swanky alternatives" as Neowin's headline put it.
To people who just want to get work done, as many people do, all those radical changes are disruptions. █
