KDE and AI, and you, and me
Quoting: KDE and AI, and you, and me – Adventures in Linux and KDE —
So I accidentally triggered an online shitstorm in the process of trying to craft a set of more restrictive LLM usage guidelines for KDE. Sorry about that. :/
I’m going to leave the comments on this post open, but I will request that everyone who wants to comment read and understand the entire post first.
So anyway…

KDE Should place a ban on Generative AI in Plasma and Plasma Components.
Other parts of KDE should be considered too.
This ban should be founded on a pro-people outlook to community, ethics and with respect for the work that has gone into KDE software and projects for decades.
This isn't about figuring out the exact percentage of AI in any given commit, things will slip through. This is about signaling to the outside what kind of community KDE is, and keeping true to KDE's vision for the future; About privacy and control, but first and foremost about the people of KDE.

I got pissed off with the current situation occurring on social media regarding multiple topics, so I decided to make a FAQ explaining the situation.
The topics include the mentions of AI at Akademy, the policy proposal, and some moderation shenanigans.
Does this count as damage control? Probably. Does it originate from being upset with the current situation rather than some weird corporate-esque reputation thing? Yes. Was I the only one to feel the exact same thing at around the same time? No.

KDE for People Initiative Calls for AI Ban in P...
The KDE project has found itself in the middle of a small uproar over the use of AI. So much so, that a new community has risen called KDE for People. The community shares the same stance as KDE Eco, which states, "Given its extremely high energy and water consumption, the increased minimum system requirements driving premature hardware obsolescence, among other very problematic social and political issues, gen AI/LLMs are not compatible with the values and goals of KDE Eco."
For those who don't know, KDE Eco is a community initiative that was launched in 2021 to "measure, optimize, and certify the energy and resource efficiency of Free and Open Source Software."
KDE for People wants nothing short of a ban on generative AI in Plasma and all Plasma components. The project wants the ban to be founded on a pro-people outlook toward community, ethics, and the work that has gone into KDE software for decades. KDE for People also points to other projects that have taken similar stances against AI, such as Zig, elementary OS, and OBS Studio, stating that using AI erodes trust, makes code review more of a challenge, and harms privacy.
