Quoting: openmediavault - NAS solution based on Debian Linux - LinuxLinks —
openmediavault is a network attached storage (NAS) solution based on Debian Linux.
#It contains services like SSH, (S)FTP, SMB/CIFS, RSync and many more ready to use. Thanks to the modular design of the framework it can be enhanced via plugins. openmediavault is primarily designed to be used in small offices or home offices, but is not limited to those scenarios. It’s a simple and easy to use out-of-the-box solution that will allow everyone to install and administrate a NAS without deeper knowledge.

OpenMediaVault 8 NAS Launches With Debian 13 Upgrade
OpenMediaVault 8.0 (Synchrony), the latest iteration of the popular open-source network-attached storage solution, has been officially released as the project’s latest stable version.
The most significant change is the upgrade to Debian 13 (Trixie), bringing newer core packages, security fixes, and upstream improvements across the system. At the same time, the project has dropped support for older CPU architectures, with OMV 8 now limited to AMD64 and ARM64.
This move had been planned for some time, and many features originally intended for OMV 8 were already backported to OMV 7 to ensure users on discontinued platforms were not left behind.

Alternative NAS operating system OpenMediaVault got a big Christmas Eve update
OpenMediaVault 8 was released on December 24, bringing with it a Christmas wishlist of improvements, including a package base upgrade and an improved update interface. There is a little bit of coal in the stocking though if you're running OpenMediaVault (OVM) on older hardware.
OVM 8, technically 8.0.1, is nicknamed "Synchrony" after a planet in Sandworms of Dune, a continuation of Frank Herbert's Dune science fiction series of books by his son Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Synchrony ushers in OVM's "Trixie" phase, as the package base has been upgraded to Debian 13, which was itself released back in August. That means access to newer software you didn't have in Debian 12.
This update comes with a big caveat though, at least if you installed OVM on a computer with an old processor. According to the release notes, OVM 8 only supports AMD64 (otherwise known as x86-64) and ARM64 architectures. The announcement post says this is for "technical reasons" while linking to a GitHub issue stating the following:

OpenMediaVault 8 (OMV8) ” Synchrony” released for 64-bit x86 (AMD64) and Arm (ARM64) platforms only
OpenMediaVault 8, or OMV8 for shorts, codenamed “Synchrony” has been released, now supporting only 64-bit architectures (AMD64 and ARM64), and dropping 32-bit systems based on the i386, armel, and armhf architectures. OpenMediaVault is a popular, open-source network-attached storage (NAS) solution based on Debian GNU/Linux that’s been around for many years. I had my first experience with it in 2017 when I reviewed FriendlyELEC NanoPi NEO NAS Kit based on a NanoPi NEO2 SBC with an Allwinner H5 64-bit Cortex A53 SoC, but sadly not recommended for OMV8 (more on that below).
