Slimbook Executive Linux Ultrabooks Now Ship with 12th Gen Intel Alder Lake CPUs

After launching the KDE Slimbook 4 Linux laptop earlier this month in collaboration with the KDE Project, Slimbook has now renewed the Executive series with the 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H “Alder Lake” processor boasting 14 cores and 20 threads, 24MB cache, up to 4,70 GHz clock speeds, and integrated Intel Iris Xe 4K graphics.

Two models are available, a 14-inch model featuring an XWGA 90 Hz LTPS antiglare display with 2880×1800 pixels resolution, and a 16-inch model featuring a 3K 90 Hz LTPS antiglare display with 2560×1600 pixels resolution.

    Spanish PC maker Slimbook’s latest Linux-friendly laptop is a thin and light model that packs a lot of horsepower into a compact chassis. The new Slimbook Executive comes with a choice of 14 or 16 inch high-resolution, 90 Hz displays and both models are powered by a 45-watt Intel Core i7-12700H processor. The larger model also features NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti discrete graphics.

    The Slimbook Executive is available now for 1299 (about $1310) and up.

    Another vendor has refreshed its Linux laptop lineup for the summer, and some of the new models look strangely familiar.

    Last week we covered the new Pulse G2 laptop from Germany's Tuxedo Computers. Close behind it are new models from several other vendors of Linux laptops with very similar specs.

    In an unusual move that provides the FOSS project with additional funding, the KDE organization sells hardware under its own brand. A notable example is the KDE Slimbook, and it just launched two fourth-generation models of the Slimbook IV.

    The specs of the Slimbook IV are much like those of the Tuxedo Pulse G2: AMD Ryzen 7 5700U CPUs, with eight cores and 16 threads. The CPU clock speed varies between 1.8GHz and 4.3GHz according to load, and there's 8MB of cache. The onboard Vega8 GPU runs at up to 1.9GHz.

    The machines have two DDR4 SODIMM slots, and can take up to 64GB of 3,200MHz memory, and also have two M.2 slots for up to 4TB of NVMe storage. They have both onboard Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6 for a maximum speed of 2.4Gb/s, plus Bluetooth 5.2.

    The Spanish-based company, Slimbook, has made available their next generation Slimbook Executive Linux ultrabooks with a 12th Gen Intel Alder Lake CPU.

    Slimbook, the company well known for producing KDE Plasma-powered laptops, has given their Executive series a bit of a refresh by making them available with the 12 Gen Intel Alder Lake CPU. This new iteration adds considerably more power (14 Cores, 20 threads, 24MB cache, and up to 4.80 GHz clock speeds), improved battery life, and better graphics (via an integrated Iris Xe 4K chipset). Consumers will find 2 different models available with this configuration: A 14" 3K display, running at a 90Hz refresh rate (at 2880 x 1800 resolution) and a 16" model that sports NVIDIA RTX 3050Ti graphics with 4GB GDDR6 RAM (also at a 90 Hz refresh rate).
