Pinta 3.1 Open-Source Paint App Released with New Cells Effect, Axonometric Grid

Coming more than eight months after Pinta 3.0, the Pinta 3.1 release implements a new axonometric grid under View > Canvas Grid, a new Cells effect, a polygon selection mode to the Lasso Select tool, a Radius Percentage parameter to the Twist effect, and a revamped canvas widget to improve performance.

elementary OS 8.1 Released with Wayland Session by Default, ARM64 Support

Based on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS (Noble Numbat) and powered by Linux kernel 6.14, elementary OS 8.1 makes the Wayland-based Secure Session introduced in elementary OS 8.0 the default, with the X11-based Classic Session as a fallback option for those who encounter issues with the Wayland-based session.

In the first part of this series, I assessed the condition of my refurbished HP ProBook 440 G8 Laptop. Overall the laptop is in excellent condition with the only blemish being a small ding on the laptop’s lid.

Let’s look at the specifications of the laptop in more detail. I’ll use a popular system profiler, inxi, to help delve into the laptop’s specs.

The images below were captured with the machine running the Manjaro, a distribution based on Arch Linux. I’m going to experiment with a variety of different Linux distributions, and spend a week using just the laptop for computing including maintaining this website. I’ll write up my findings in a separate article.
