Hackaday ☛ Linux Fu: USB Everywhere
It is a common problem: I have a USB device on a computer out in the shop, and I want to use it from the comfort of my office. What to do? Well, you could remote desktop into the distant machine. But, honestly, I always find any remote desktop more than ssh clunky and somewhat undesirable. Fortunately, Linux can do virtually anything if you only know how to do it. So, this time, I’ll show you how to transport a USB device over your network. Of course, I have a network that reaches out to the shop. It should be a simple matter to tell my desktop machine that one of its USB devices lives across the network. Well, it wasn’t that simple, but it is doable.

Boiling Steam ☛ New Steam Games with Native GNU/Linux Clients, including Whisker Squadron: Survivor - 2025-02-26 Edition
Between 2025-02-19 and 2025-02-26 there were 11 New Steam games released with Native GNU/Linux clients. For reference, during the same time, there were 14 games released for backdoored Windows on Steam, so the GNU/Linux versions represent about 78.6 % of total released titles - this data seems wrong somehow, so take this percentage as highly dubious this time around. Nevertheless, this week, there’s the 1.0 release of Whisker Squadron that reminds me a lot of StarFox back in the 90s on the SuperNES, but with a serious boost in terms of graphics.

Peroty ☛ Bask in the glow - Fix local DNS when upgrading pihole and using unbound for your homelab
Now that I’ve gotten my pi-hole instance working, I realized I wasn’t able to load any of my local DNS entries. I have a domain.com that I use for a couple of things that are exposed to the world. Mainly my RSS reader. I also keep a *.lab.domain.com wildcard domain so I can have wiki.lab.domain.com internally so I can make notes to myself without worry about the outside world seeing them.
Well, nothing on my lab subdomain wasn’t loading. It’s DNS. It’s always DNS.

If you’re running pi-hole behind a reverse proxy and upgrading to pi-hole 6 you are not able to login. You need to make one change in your reverse proxy.

Silicon Angle ☛ IBM completes $6.4B HashiCorp acquisition following regulatory approvals
IBM Corp. today closed its acquisition of infrastructure automation provider HashiCorp Inc. for $6.4 billion. The companies originally expected to finalize the deal by the end of 2024. The delay likely relates to the scrutiny that the transaction drew from antitrust regulators. >
