Webpath Technologies, the parent company of On-Disk.com, is proud and excited to report that they have reached a record in pay-outs to developers and software projects. This month's calculations showed that developers have received a total of over 21,000 USD in 2006 and 2007 so far.

Large or small companies, organizations, and individuals with low-budget or no-budget can publish their software and digital media products with no out of pocket expenses through On-Disk.com. On-Disk.com was originally created as a live, portfolio site to showcase Webpath Technologies eCommerce and hosting capabilities. Due to the success On-Disk.com has achieved, it has become Webpath's primary focus.

On-Disk.com gives developers and projects an outlet for cdrom and DVD disk distribution while also allowing them to earn some much needed resources to further their work.

The Projects

There are a total of 42 developers earning money at On-Disk.com. Some of the projects being supported include Wolvix Linux, Ark Linux, Frugalware Linux, SymphonyOS, Berry Linux, Zenwalk Linux, Goblinx, Feather Linux, PCLinuxOS, and dynebolic.

Karlie Robinson, of Webpath Technologies, states, "And some of our projects aren't Distros at all. Projects like Glest (Open Source Turn-based game), Smart Technology for Smarter Business (tutorials for commercial office software), Ray Larabie/Typodermic (Fonts) to name a few." They also participate in Fedora Sponsorships and other disc donations.

The projects sign up at no cost to them and set their own price. Then they receive any of the funds on sells over 4.99 USD. Karly states, "As far as building a payout, a project like Linux Mint or the Super Gamer won't ship as many discs to trigger a payout because they earn $5.40 per disc. Other projects have set their price to earn $0.90 but their discs fly out of here." A payout is triggered when their account reaches 250 USD. In addition, On-Disk.com is non-exclusive so they can work with other vendors if they want to.

On-Disk.com does more to help the projects than provide cdroms to customers. "Besides cash to keep their projects going we can help in a variety of ways. One of the things we do most often is marketing help. Sometimes we find that Software developers get so caught up in the technical specs for their release that they forget what regular users or more importantly users switching from Win/Mac will want to know.

But it doesn't stop with Marketing. We've done a variety of tasks for the projects. We were once asked by Flavio Pereira de Oliveira to re-master GoblinX to include a major update because there were some bandwidth issues and he wouldn't have been able to get a new ISO up to the server," Karly explains.

So, if you are a developer, you might want to consider a partnership with On-Disk.com to earn money for your project. More information can be found at On-Disk.com's Developer Portal.

Many times users don't know that a project earns money from On-Disk.com. "In some cases we're a projects best kept secret." If you are a Linux user and purchase your disks from an online retailer, please consider purchasing your disks from On-Disk.com and give back to the community in a substantial way.

  • How To Install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9 - idroot

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9. For those of you who didn’t know, MongoDB is a high-performance, highly scalable document-oriented NoSQL database. Unlike in SQL databases where data is stored in rows and columns inside tables, in MongoDB, data is structured in JSON-like format inside records which are referred to as documents. The open-source attribute of MongoDB as a database software makes it an ideal candidate for almost any database-related project. This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of the MongoDB NoSQL database on AlmaLinux 9. You can follow the same instructions for CentOS and Rocky Linux.

  • Self-host a Ghost Blog With Traefik

Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
