We publish a fresh email from Paul Tagliamonte, the White House staff member who encouraged fellow Debianists to defame Dr Appelbaum. This email is the strongest yet, while most volunteers wanted to remain neutral, Tagliamonte was calling for the Press team to make these hits without consulting the volunteers at all.

    Debian announced the death of Frans Pop in 2010.

    There were numerous comments on the debian-private (leaked) gossip network.

    We want to focus on one feature of the death. Was it Debian-connected?

    One unique feature of the suicide is that Pop sent a resignation note to debian-private on 15 August 2010.

    There have been two headline suicides in Debian: the suicide of the founder, Ian Murdock and the Frans Pop suicide that appears to have been planned for the anniversary of Debian's founding, Debian Day.

    The significance of Frans' actions can not be understated. His life and death intertwined with the project itself. This raises the most serious questions: have there been other suicides or incidents of self harm? What impact does a suicide like that have on organization culture? Even though it was hidden on debian-private, everybody knew something about it.

    Therefore, there is a strong case for having a fresh look at other deaths even though doing so may cause some pain for their friends and family.

  • Amnesty International & Debian Day suicides comparison

    When Gaëtan Mootoo, an extraordinarily gifted Amnesty International employee, decided to take his own life, he did it in his workplace, the Amnesty office in Paris.

    Debian doesn't have a workplace. Nonetheless, when Frans Pop chose to take his own life, he sent a formal email announcing his resignation from Debian at 9:41pm on the evening before the Debian anniversary, Debian Day, 16 August 2010. For a virtual organization, for all intents and purposes, this was the closest you get to taking your life in the office.

    Amnesty and Debian have both had a number of tragic deaths that could have been avoided. Let's put them head to head and see how they compare.

    Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
