’Burn My Windows’ GNOME Extension Adds 3 New Effects & Random Mode

A couple of new Star Trek-esque effects have been added to the ‘Burn my Windows’ GNOME Shell extension.

If you’ve not yet heard about this bling-tactic add-on, it animates closing windows (and optionally dialogs) in some spectacularly over the top ways — just like Compiz of old.

Burn My Windows 8 is available from the GNOME Extensions website and it adds there new effects.

    Want some cool desktop animations? the ‘Burn My Windows’ extension added some more animation effects for Ubuntu 20.04+, Fedora workstation, and other Linux with GNOME 3.36+.

    Previously when user clicks to close an app window, the extension applies a burning window down effect.

    There’s also new “Broken Glass” effect in upcoming release to shatter your windows into a shower sharp shards!

    For each animation, there’s a setting page to change the animation speed, scale, color, etc.

  • ‘Burn My Windows’ Extension Adds Breaking Glass Effect & More Options

    The effervescent animation add-on has won itself a legion of fans thanks to its crop of cool animated window closing effects that look good and aren’t super-heavy on system resources.

    In its latest update, a ‘Breaking Glass’ effect has been appended to add-on’s animation armoury, albeit only for GNOME 40 and above. As with other effect there are controls to adjust animation time, scale, gravity, and “blow force”. You can also choose to make the window shatter from the location of the mouse pointer, for some added reality.

    Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
