COSMIC 1.6 Desktop Environment Released with More Improvements

Coming three weeks after COSMIC 1.5, the COSMIC 1.6 release adds support for the wl-dmabuf-v6 Wayland protocol for passing direct memory buffers (dma-buf) between clients and compositors, and adds support for the EI (Emulated Input) Wayland protocol to simulate hardware input devices, such as keyboards and mice.

Highlights of Mozilla Thunderbird 154 include an optional system tray mode that hides the main window when the last window closes, a “Copy To” right-click context menu on folders for message/rfc822 attachments, and support for dragging message/rfc822 type MIME attachments to the folder tree.

DFRobot is offering two MXM GPU Carrier Board Kits for the LattePanda Mu compute module, with configurations based on either an Intel Arc A380 or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 MXM graphics card. Radxa Zero 3W Powers Compact IP-KVM with BIOS OCR

Crowd Supply recently featured the USBridge-KVM 2.0, a compact IP-KVM designed for remote system administration, debugging, and bare-metal recovery. The device provides HDMI video capture, USB keyboard and mouse emulation, virtual media, hardware power control, BIOS text recognition, and an integrated display while operating independently of the target computer’s operating system.

The most significant change is the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM. The base model makes do with the older Gen 3 chip and 8GB of RAM. Though storage stays at 256GB across both, expandable via microSD up to 2TB.

Everything else on the hardware carries over from the base model, including the 6.31-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED display, the 50MP main camera with a 13MP secondary and 32MP selfie shooter, the 4,415mAh removable battery with 30W charging, IP55 water resistance, and Gorilla Glass 7i to protect the display.

There's also a new Cobalt Blue colorway that ties into Fairphone's fair-mined cobalt supply chain efforts. It joins the existing Forest Green and Horizon Black options. The modular design is unchanged, so you can still swap out 12 key components with a regular screwdriver.
