yq - command-line YAML, XML and TOML processor
The program works by converting documents into a representation that jq can process. The results can then be returned as JSON or converted back into their original format. This makes it useful for inspecting configuration files, extracting individual values and performing automated data transformations.
yq includes separate commands for processing YAML, XML and TOML. Each uses the appropriate parsing libraries while retaining access to jq’s powerful query and manipulation language.
The software is particularly useful for system administrators and developers working with configuration files, infrastructure definitions and structured datasets. It can be incorporated into shell scripts and other automation workflows.

Memray - memory profiler for Python applications
The tool records allocation activity during execution and produces reports that connect memory costs to individual call stacks. This is particularly helpful when a Python program delegates substantial work to libraries outside pure Python.
Memray can be driven from the terminal or embedded in a program, so it fits both one-off investigations and targeted profiling of a particular operation.

tincan - peer-to-peer voice and text chat for the terminal
It is intentionally different from account-based chat platforms, but it is not infrastructure-free. Peer discovery, NAT traversal and relay fallback currently depend on public services operated by Number Zero. Room members can also learn each other’s IP addresses, an important trade-off of the direct peer-to-peer design.
The coordinator keeps recent text chat in memory so somebody joining later can see what was said before they arrived. That history is not written to disk and disappears when the room closes.

Glipboard - terminal clipboard history manager
The application is designed for users who prefer a minimal desktop environment. Its background service handles clipboard monitoring, while the terminal interface provides a convenient way to browse and reuse saved entries. There is no need to keep a graphical application window open.
Glipboard stores clipboard history locally in an SQLite database. On Linux, it supports both Wayland and X11 sessions, using different monitoring methods to accommodate the underlying display system.

OpenStock - stock market research and monitoring platform
The application uses Finnhub for market information, TradingView for financial charts and market visualisations, and MongoDB for storing user information. Its interface is built using Next.js, React and TypeScript, with a responsive layout designed for desktop and mobile browsers.
OpenStock can be deployed on a Linux server using Docker Compose or installed directly with Node.js. Market data availability and freshness depend on the external providers used. It is a research and monitoring application rather than a brokerage or trading execution platform.

10 Best Free and Open Source Quantum Chemistry Software
Several computational approaches are used. Ab initio methods calculate molecular properties from first principles, while density functional theory (DFT) uses electron density to investigate electronic structure. Semiempirical methods introduce approximations and fitted parameters to reduce computational costs, making calculations practical for larger systems.
Electronic structure calculations describe how electrons are distributed within atoms, molecules and solids. Atomistic simulations extend this work to model the structure, interactions and sometimes the movement of atoms in materials. These techniques are widely used in chemistry, physics, materials science and pharmaceutical research.
Here’s our verdict captured in a legendary LinuxLinks-ratings chart. Only free and open source software is eligible for inclusion here.
Bibliograph - collaborative online bibliography management
The software provides a central environment where multiple people can contribute to bibliographic databases without installing a dedicated desktop application. It is suitable for research groups compiling references for collaborative projects, academic institutions maintaining specialist collections and educators sharing reading material with students.
Bibliograph combines reference management with tools for organising and publishing collections. Its architecture uses the qooxdoo JavaScript framework for the interface and Yii2 for the server backend, with extensions available for integrating additional bibliographic services.

10 Useful Open Source Linux Applications I Miss
There’s a particular annoyance in looking up an old Linux favourite and finding installation instructions for a distribution you stopped using years ago. You remember exactly why you want the program. Getting it running again is another matter.
GrumPHP - PHP code quality checks using Git hooks
The software works as a Composer plugin and registers Git hooks when installed as a development dependency. Project rules are defined in a YAML configuration file, so teams can enforce consistent standards without asking every contributor to remember a separate checklist.
GrumPHP can also run checks independently of Git commits, making it useful during development and in continuous integration pipelines.

eprofiler-tui - terminal-based profiling flamegraph viewer
The program is designed to help developers investigate the execution behaviour of running applications. By displaying sampled call stacks as a graphical hierarchy, it becomes easier to identify functions consuming significant execution time and understand relationships between different stack frames.
eprofiler-tui can process data produced by profiling tools such as the OpenTelemetry eBPF profiler. The profiling agent collects the measurements, while eprofiler-tui concentrates on displaying and exploring the resulting information.
The interface supports keyboard navigation, thread filtering and detailed inspection of individual stack frames. It also includes experimental tools for investigating profiling data in alternative ways.

systemd-repart – declarative disk partitioning tool
Unlike conventional interactive partition editors, systemd-repart works from partition definition files. This makes it particularly useful when building operating-system images or automatically configuring storage during deployment.
It can operate on physical block devices as well as disk-image files and includes facilities for creating complete disk images.
