This version includes important security updates to Firefox.
Coming one and a half months after Wireshark 4.6.8, the Wireshark 4.6.9 release updates support for the AKP, Bencode, BT AVCTP, BSSLAP, Catapult DCT2000, CSN.1, DICOM, F1AP, FP Hint, Frame, GNW, GSM BSSMAP, IEEE 802.11, LBMC, LoRaWAN, NBAP, OBEX, OpenFlow 1.3/1.4/1.5, PKCS12, QUIC, RTPS, SGP.32, SMB, SPDY, SYNCHROPHASOR, UMTS FP, X11, and ZigBee ZCL protocols.
Based on the Debian “Forky” Testing and SparkyLinux Testing repositories as of September 21st, 2026, SparkyLinux 2026.09 is powered by the latest and greatest Linux 7.2 kernel series and introduces a Sparky Labwc edition featuring the Labwc wlroots-based window-stacking compositor for Wayland.
KeePassXC 2.8 looks like a major update that promises a long-anticipated Qt 6 port to provide users with a more modern experience, Auto-Type support on Wayland using XDG Desktop Portals, quick unlock via Polkit on Linux, configurable keyboard shortcuts, remote database synchronization with external tools, and quick unlock with password on macOS.
NTFS-3G 2026.9.18 is a security update that adds guards against multiple creator-owner and creator-group ACEs during ACL inheritance and fixes heap buffer overflows in the ntfs_external_attr_find(), ntfs_ea_check_wsldev(), ntfs_check_restart_area(), ntfs_same_sid(), and ntfs_acl_owner() functions.
Coming a month after NVIDIA 595.99.02, the NVIDIA 595.104.02 release addresses a failure that could occur when allocating GPU page tables larger than 2 GiB (INT_MAX) and an issue where unvalidated VkHdrMetadataEXT values were forwarded to the Wayland color-management-v1 protocol, which could cause a crash.
Coming almost ten months after VLC 3.0.23, the VLC 3.0.24 release is a major update in the VLC 3.0 series that introduces FFmpeg 8.1 support, support for the APV decoder, support for Atrac3/Atrac9 decoding, support for CEA-708 closed captions in MP4, and SRT listener mode support.
Firefox 156.0.1 is here only a week after Firefox 156 to fix an issue that caused the web browser to become unresponsive on some web pages that use CSS anchor positioning and to fix a bug causing elements inside a link to not show their CSS :active styles while being clicked.
Coming more than three months after Giada 1.5, the Giada 1.6 release introduces elastic (time-stretching) playback mode for sample channels, allowing tempo and pitch to be changed independently, and switches to a more efficient memory layout to improve audio buffer performance and internal data handling.
Flatpak 1.18.3 comes a month after Flatpak 1.18.2, which fixed a crash in the system helper that occurred when iterating cache directories, a portal bug causing it to pass the wrong file descriptor when sandbox-expose-fd-ro triggers fd remapping collision, and a system helper issue causing it to track the wrong D-Bus sender for pulls.
The real “Linux”
The timewasting carries on
Beefing up the animals
Still active
As planned
Better late than never
Put away the gadgets
The real and meaningful astronomical event
It’s better for more than just moral reasons like solidarity
Combatting FOMO
Building an Internet for everyone takes people who can turn ideas into action.
Orange Pi has published hardware details for the OrangePi O1, a 90 × 70mm SBC based on the Sophgo BM1688 processor. It pairs eight Arm Cortex-A53 cores with a RISC-V C906 coprocessor and a 16-TOPS INT8 TPU, along with up to 16GB of LPDDR4/LPDDR4X memory.
wolfSSL has detailed several embedded security updates covering deterministic networking, post-quantum cryptography and automotive hardware security. The updates include the wolfIP TCP/IP stack, NIST-validated post-quantum algorithms in wolfCrypt, native Falcon and FrodoKEM implementations, and wolfHSM support for Infineon’s AURIX TC4xx family.
OnLogic has added two SoftPLC-oriented industrial computers built around Intel Core Ultra processors and pre-configured CODESYS environments. The Helix 521-PLC targets low-profile deployments, while the larger Helix 524-PLC adds PCIe expansion with an available Hilscher netX fieldbus interface for industrial networking and real-time control applications.
MINIX has listed the N304-AI, a compact mini PC based on Intel’s Core 3 304 processor with integrated Intel Graphics and an Intel AI Boost NPU. The system provides 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, dual M.2 NVMe storage, dual Gigabit Ethernet and triple 4K display support.
