Easy 3.4.6 has focused on refining the user interface; in particular, there is a return of an old theme, "EasyBlue". Some bugs fixed, otherwise mostly the same as 3.4.5, except Firefox bumped to 99.0.1 and new 'awf' package.

  • Partition icons overlap

    Flipping from JWM-mode icon-free-desktop and ROX-mode icons-on-desktop, I observed partition icons slightly non-aligned

New kernel

Submitted by Roy Schestowitz on Tuesday 19th of April 2022 03:33:04 PM.
  • Kernel 5.15.34 compiled

I reported about kernels after 5.15.16 having issues, also other kernels dated from 27 January:

    https://bkhome.org/news/202202/kernel-51610-broken.html

There has been plenty of time for the issues to be fixed, and they are. I compiled 5.15.34 and it runs fine. On my Lenovo Ideacentre PC anyway. Running it now.

LibreOffice missing icons

Submitted by Roy Schestowitz on Wednesday 20th of April 2022 02:27:06 PM.
  • LibreOffice missing icons

That is weird. LibreOffice is compiled in OpenEmbedded, and defaults to the "colibre" icons, that are located at /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/config/images_colibre.zip

JWMDesk desktop icons fix

Submitted by Roy Schestowitz on Friday 22nd of April 2022 12:24:53 AM.
  • JWMDesk desktop icons fix

Since then, I have applied fixes for running in EasyOS, version 3.5.1.1, 3.5.1.2, and now 3.5.1.3.

In JWMDesk, "Desktop -> Icon layout", there are radiobuttons to flip between the traditional Puppy desktop icon layout, and the standard EasyOS layout.

I flipped to Puppy layout; however, after switching back to EasyOS layout, the icon layout was somewhat broken. That has been fixed by 3.5.1.3. The script edited is /usr/local/desksetup/func

  • How To Install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9 - idroot

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9. For those of you who didn’t know, MongoDB is a high-performance, highly scalable document-oriented NoSQL database. Unlike in SQL databases where data is stored in rows and columns inside tables, in MongoDB, data is structured in JSON-like format inside records which are referred to as documents. The open-source attribute of MongoDB as a database software makes it an ideal candidate for almost any database-related project. This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of the MongoDB NoSQL database on AlmaLinux 9. You can follow the same instructions for CentOS and Rocky Linux.

  • Self-host a Ghost Blog With Traefik

Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
