  • You Can Now Try the New COSMIC Desktop Environment with Pop!_OS 21.04 Beta

    Pop!_OS 21.04 is one of the most anticipated distros of this year and the public beta has finally arrived.

    While we do not have an official list of changes that follows with this release, but it comes packed with its brand new COSMIC Desktop Environment.

    Let me highlight a few things about the desktop, how you can download it, and my initial thoughts on it.

  • Pop!_OS 21.04 has a Beta out now with their new COSMIC desktop

    System76 have recently released the first Beta of their Linux distribution Pop!_OS 21.04, which comes with their brand new COSMIC desktop environment.

    To be clear, this is not some full desktop like GNOME itself or KDE. Instead, it's pretty much an enhancement to GNOME 3.38 with lots of new tweaks. The layout is quite different, with it being suitable for people who heavily rely on either mouse or keyboard for interactions. As a reminder from when COSMIC was announced, System76 said the "new designs are developed from extensive testing and user feedback since the Pop!_OS 20.04 release".

  • Pop!_OS 21.04 Beta Released With New Features: Here’s How To Update

    The makers of Pop!_OS System76 announced the latest Pop!_OS 21.04 in April with the COSMIC desktop environment, with the official blog post stating that the stable release would be in June. We’re in June now, and it looks like the distro release is on schedule as the Beta version of Pop!_OS has been released today.

    In this article, we’ll be having our first look at the COSMIC desktop environment and Pop!_OS 21.04 features, and let’s see how you can update from Pop!_OS 20.04/19.04 to the same. In the end, we’ll also have a link to the official GitHub release page where you can download the Intel/AMD or NVIDIA ISO’s.

    Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
