  • Kali Linux 2021.2 released with new tools, improvements, and themes

    ​Kali Linux 2021.2 was released today by Offensive Security and includes new themes and features, such as access to privileged ports, new tools, and a console-based configuration utility.

    Kali Linux is a Linux distribution designed for cybersecurity professionals and ethical hackers to perform penetration testing and security audits.

    With this release, the Kali Linux Team introduces the following new features outlined below.

  • Kali Linux 2021.2 Comes with a Brand New Set of Tools

    The distribution’s team have released Kali Linux 2021.2 which includes two new significant tools: Kali Tweak Tool and Kali Application Boxer.

    Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution that specifically caters to the likes of network analysts and penetration testers. The presence of a plethora of tools that come pre-installed with Kali Linux transforms it into an ethical hacker’s swiss-knife. So, when it comes to ethical hacking or playing with networking tools, the first Linux distro that should come to your mind should be Kali Linux.

    Today we’ll be checking out the latest Kali Linux 2021.2 release. This is the second release of the year for Kali Linux and it usually comes in quarters. The first quarterly release was in February and now we’re getting one in June. So, let’s check out what’s new.

  • Kali Linux 2021.2 released: Kaboxer, Kali-Tweaks, new tools, and more!

    Offensive Security has introduced two new tools for making Kali easier to use: Kaboxer and Kali-Tweaks.

    Kaboxer is a tool for packaging “tricky” applications in Docker containers so they can be used on Kali. These include apps that are hard to package correctly due to complex dependencies, legacy programs and libraries, and apps that need to run in isolation.

    Kali-Tweaks is an automation tool that’s aimed at helping Kali users customize the OS quickly and painlessly. For example, it can be used to install or remove groups of tools, change the default login shell, enable or disable “bleeding-edge” and “experimental” branches. New options are in the works and users are welcome to suggest tweaks that they would find helpful.

    In Kali Linux 2021.2, opening a listener on TCP and UDP ports 0-1023 no longer requires super-user access (but that’s possible only on Kali flavors that operate with the kernel).

    One of the good news for the Raspberry users in this edition is support for the RPi 400. You will also see the new app called Kali-Tweaks v1.0 that lets you customize Kali to your own personal taste. Along with the Kali-Tweaks, you will also see the much anticipated Kaboxer v1.0 in the Kali Linux 2021.2. Along with this, Kali Linux is now fully supported for Apple M1 users who have Parallel.

    The latest iteration of security fan-favorite, Kali Linux has been released with new tools, themes, and plenty of improvements.

    If you’re a fan of Linux and security, you’ll be glad to know the developers of Kali Linux have released a new version of the fan-favorite distribution. Kali Linux 2021.2, created by Offensive Security, includes a new collection of themes, and plenty of features to attract cybersecurity pros, ethical hackers, and anyone else interested in a user-friendly penetration testing platform.

    One of the most anticipated additions to Kali Linux is Kabox, which is a tool for packaging tricky applications in Docker containers to be used in the distribution. These apps are normally a challenge to package, because of dependencies, legacy libraries and programs, and applications that require isolation to run.

    According to the quarterly update rhythm used by Kali Linux, the developers released a new version of the Debian-based Linux distribution last Tuesday. Kali Linux 2021.1 includes two completely new features: the Kali Applications Boxer (Kaboxer) as a container-based solution for the uncomplicated execution of difficult-to-package applications as well as Kali tweaks, which should make it easier for users to configure the system according to their preferences. In addition, there are a few new tools and fine-tuning of the optics.

    Kali Linux is primarily aimed at an IT security-savvy audience and brings a large selection of pre-installed tools for vulnerability analysis and forensics. The strongest competitor is the Linux distribution Parrot OS, which was updated to version 4.11 at the end of March 2021.

    Kali Linux 2021.2 is the latest Kali rolling release that arrived a few days ago with Linux Kernel 5.10 LTS, default Xfce 4.16.2 desktop, new important tools, and tons of other enhancements.

    Packaging programs becomes very difficult when a program has complex dependencies or legacy libraries that are no longer available in the host system. Here comes Kaboxer, a Linux application that aims to help you package up programs properly using container technology.

    Kali has also shipped three new applications packaged using Kaboxer tools such as Covenant framework, Firefox (Developer Edition) web browser, and Zenmap official graphical user interface (GUI) for the Nmap Security Scanner.

On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
