Paul Tagliamonte: boot2kier
I can’t remember exactly the joke I was making at the time in my work’s slack instance (I’m sure it wasn’t particularly funny, though; and not even worth re-reading the thread to work out), but it wound up with me writing a UEFI binary for the punchline. Not to spoil the ending but it worked - no pesky kernel, no messing around with “userland”. I guess the only part of this you really need to know for the setup here is that it was a Severance joke, which is some fantastic TV. If you haven’t seen it, this post will seem perhaps weirder than it actually is. I promise I haven’t joined any new cults. For those who have seen it, the payoff to my joke is that I wanted my machine to boot directly to an image of Kier Eagan.

Mike Blumenkrantz: Againicl
Busy.
I didn’t forget to blog. I know you don’t believe me, but I’ve been accumulating items to blog about for the past month. Powering up. Preparing. And now, finally, it’s time to begin opening the valves.

Boiling Steam ☛ New Steam Games with Native GNU/Linux Clients, including Stories from Sol, and Dawnfolk - 2025-02-19 Edition
Between 2025-02-12 and 2025-02-19 there were 12 New Steam games released with Native GNU/Linux clients. For reference, during the same time, there were 72 games released for backdoored Windows on Steam, so the GNU/Linux versions represent about 16.7 % of total released titles. This week there’s a few good picks, such as the excellent looking Visual Novel / Adventure game called Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog. And there’s Dawnfolk, minimal city-builder, too.

Larry the Qcow2 We are very happy to announce new official downloads on our website and our mirrors: Gentoo for amd64 (x86-64) and arm64 (aarch64), as immediately bootable disk images in qemu’s QCOW2 format! The images, updated weekly, include an EFI boot partition and a fully functional Gentoo installation; either with no network activated but a password-less root login on the console (“no root pw”), or with network activated, all accounts initially locked, but cloud-init running on boot (“cloud-init”). Enjoy, and read on for more!
