Boiling Steam ☛ OFFBEAT: Review on GNU/Linux and Steam Deck
Learn how to produce music with OFFBEAT, both a game and a music creating platform developed by Whetstone Games and published by Pantaloon. Works great on Steam Deck (Playable) and on GNU/Linux with Proton. The game starts with your uncle gifting you a music sequencer, and then asks you to create a ringtone with it. You plug your tiger keyboard (not a musical cat toy) and start making music with them. The music sequencer is your main producing tool allows you to set some inputs, pick the notes you want to play from each input and at which time they should play. It also allows you to set beats per minute, and the key of the composition. Once you are satisfied, you can save it to a cassette tape. The initial keyboard, for a toy, it is quite robust, it can mimic a piano, an organ, it also makes meows and engine revving sounds. There is a limit of 3 notes input at a time to create chords. By clicking on it, you can go to an interface that let you play it, or tweak its settings (which kind of sound you want it to make). But you don’t need to play the instrument, the sequencer will take care of that.

Boiling Steam ☛ New Steam Games with Native GNU/Linux Builds, including Dreamcards and I.T. Never Ends - 2026-08-19 Edition
Oh my God we are so late with this one, but since there were quite a few good games released in that week, better late than never! Between 2026-08-12 and 2026-08-19 there were 131 New Steam games released with Native GNU/Linux builds. For reference, during the same time, there were 1017 games released for backdoored Windows on Steam, so the GNU/Linux versions represent about 12.9 % of total released titles. In that week, I would have chosen to highlight Dreamcards. It’s a card game where card interactions generate emergent story beats. It gives rise to a bunch of unexpected combos, and it has a Palworld meets Slay the Spire vibes! Honarable mention to I.T. Never Ends, framing a the desk-job around absurd IT tickets, with GLaDOS-tier voice acting and a lot of secrets to uncover. Full details and more games below!

GamingOnLinux ☛ Counter-Strike 2 adds an intense fast-paced 3v3 'Rush' game mode | GamingOnLinux
This new Rush mode might be my favourite way to play Counter-Strike 2, giving you a faster-paced experience with shorter matches. Rush is 3v3 in small arenas, with the point to take down all enemies or capture their little tower.

GamingOnLinux ☛ Respect The Horde playtest adds Native Linux and controller support | GamingOnLinux
Respect The Horde mixes together survival, tower defense and horde games to interesting effect - and now it has a Native Linux playtest. Originally written about here on GamingOnLinux back in earlier September, it's improving rapidly.
In Respect the Horde, survival is about using the horde's predictable behaviour against it. Build barriers to redirect its path, lure zombies where you want them, and funnel entire crowds into barbed wire, fire and deadly traps. Explore abandoned locations for weapons, equipment and resources. Decide where to make your stand, then turn the environment into a defensive setup built to handle hundreds of infected at once. -
