downtime lately
Submitted by srlinuxx on Friday 26th of June 2009 08:10:15 PM Filed under
I apologize for the downtime lately. The cable has been going out quite a bit recently. No one at the other end of the phone line seems to know any reason why, but I have my suspicions.

Should Linux and Android Fuse?
Submitted by ArtInvent on Tuesday 2nd of June 2009 10:26:06 PM Filed under
Android is Linux but it's not. With Google behind it and a ton of new devices coming out, it's got momentum. Will it succeed where all other desktop Linux has failed and become the standard open source OS?

Kdenlive: Video Editing Breakthrough
Submitted by ArtInvent on Friday 1st of May 2009 11:33:32 PM Filed under
In my view, it has for a number of years now been the greatest failing of Linux: video editors have been a joke. No one who is serious about video editing could really be happy in the least with the sorry state of non-linear video editing apps.

One computers' Linux experience
Submitted by bigbearomaha on Tuesday 21st of April 2009 03:35:07 AMI suppose , in answer to the question "When will Linux be ready for the user desktop?"
It was ready almost two years ago in this house. Children use it daily, as well as computer phobic wives and memory challenged mad computer geniuses. (The 'genius' part is up for speculation.)

Switch to KDE 4.2.2
Submitted by gfranken on Saturday 18th of April 2009 09:04:00 PM Filed under
I've always been a diehard KDE user. When I first tried Linux several years ago, I experimented with both Gnome and KDE, and, for me, KDE just seemed to be a better fit. So, I've been trying to decide when to switch my home production machine from the KDE 3 series to KDE 4. Finally, last week, I made the switch...

Red Hat Hires a Blind Software Engineer to Improve Accessibility on Linux Desktop
Accessibility on a Linux desktop is not one of the strongest points to highlight. However, GNOME, one of the best desktop environments, has managed to do better comparatively (I think).
In a blog post by Christian Fredrik Schaller (Director for Desktop/Graphics, Red Hat), he mentions that they are making serious efforts to improve accessibility.
Starting with Red Hat hiring Lukas Tyrychtr, who is a blind software engineer to lead the effort in improving Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Fedora Workstation in terms of accessibility.
