  • Arcade Spirits Gets a Release Date on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS

Visual novels have seen a massive uptick in popularity over the last five years with things like Broken Age and 2064 showing how the genre is as strong as it ever was. They have been a regular part of indie releases, and now a new romantic-themed one is set for release very soon. PQube has created a wide variety of games and this showcases their first big visual novel. As a new hire at a game arcade in an alternate universe where the '80s North American console crash never happened, you're in the vague year of 20XX and instead of fighting robot masters, you're learing about the world around you and the people in it.

  • The tactical RPG 'Depth of Extinction' updated with additional maps and more

Depth of Extinction is a pretty good tactical RPG but it did suffer from a lack of variation in the levels. This update is a start towards improving that.

The Winter Update adds three entirely new level layouts and a totally new set of graphical tiles for the Cultist “Temple” and the Android “Citadel” to significantly set them apart from other levels as well. There's also a new casual mode, a new way to choose a zone to travel through with difficulty that scales with you so you won't find them too easy and more.

  • Planet Nomads has another update out with new weather types and lots of tweaks

Planet Nomads, the sci-fi single-player survival game has another update out and it seems it's been a tough year for the developer.

  • The Steam Winter Sale is now live, prepare your wallet

It's that time of the year again, Steam are now doing their own Winter Sale and there's obviously a lot of cheap games available for Linux.

  • There's another (better) workaround for the Unity graphical glitches with NVIDIA on Linux

Recently, I wrote a post about Unity games when playing on NVIDIA having some major graphical glitches with a workaround. Here's another one, that might work better.

  • How To Install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9 - idroot

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9. For those of you who didn’t know, MongoDB is a high-performance, highly scalable document-oriented NoSQL database. Unlike in SQL databases where data is stored in rows and columns inside tables, in MongoDB, data is structured in JSON-like format inside records which are referred to as documents. The open-source attribute of MongoDB as a database software makes it an ideal candidate for almost any database-related project. This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of the MongoDB NoSQL database on AlmaLinux 9. You can follow the same instructions for CentOS and Rocky Linux.

  • Self-host a Ghost Blog With Traefik

Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
