The Register UK ☛ Torvalds: AI is fine for competent devs, but spare us the 'drive-by' patches [Ed: Fails to note that the author does PR for LF (Linux Foundation) and by extension for Torvalds. This means that The Register MS is also, without disclosures, running LF PR. This article is basically one LF operative interviewing another LF operative.]
In the meantime, Torvalds told me: "Well, in all fairness, we do clearly have an 'AI problem.' Or rather, we have two independent AI problems: we have a large codebase that AI finds real bugs in, and that adds a lot of work on already fairly overworked maintainers. And then we have people who use AI to generate patches without actually understanding the code in question."
