elementary OS 8.0.1 Released with Linux Kernel 6.11 from Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
Built on top of Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS (Noble Numbat) and powered by Linux kernel 6.11, elementary OS 8.0.1 is here as an updated installation media for those who want to deploy the elementary OS 8.0 “Circe” release on new computers without having to download hundreds of updates after the installation.
The new kernel should also provide better support for some recent hardware or components that failed to work correctly (or at all) with the elementary OS 8.0 release. Of course, elementary OS 8.0.1 also includes all the upstream security patches and bug fixes.

Elementary OS 8.0.1 Brings Bug Fixes, UI Tweaks, and Performance Boosts
Over three months after its major 8.0 release, the team behind the Ubuntu-based elementary OS has rolled out the first update to the 8.x series, elementary OS 8.0.1.
One of the highlights of this release is the AppCenter, which now properly displays dark mode brand colors and screenshots, ensuring that visuals are consistent across different themes.
At the same time, according to the release notes, users will see faster search results, improved release note windows, and a more graceful recovery mechanism should the AppCenter cache be emptied.

Ubuntu 24.04.2-based elementary OS 8.0.1 now available with the 6.11 kernel and multiple fixes
In the three months that have passed since the release of elementary OS 8.0, the team behind this Ubuntu-based distro with a macOS-inspired interface has been busy ironing out various problems and further improving the look and feel of this piece of code.
Now, version 8.0.1 is available for download, and the essential element of the list of changes is the latest Ubuntu LTS Hardware Enablement Kernel 6.11, which has been included thanks to the Ubuntu 24.04.2 foundation. This kernel allows most users on new AMD platforms who had hardware support-related issues in version 8 to forget about those problems, but its benefits are also targeting various components from other brands as well.

elementary OS 8.1 Brings Bug Fixes, New Kernel + More - OMG! Ubuntu
Based atop the recent Ubuntu 24.04.2 release, elementary OS 8.1 is powered by Linux kernel 6.11, Mesa , etc. The kernel uplift may resolve some of the issues folks who’d tried the previous build with Linux kernel 6.8 had experience.
Those (important) foundational fittings aside, elementary devs also spent time fixing, fine-tuning and finessing a few rough edges across the many apps, tools, and home-grown technologies the distro ships with, as elementary OS’ Danielle Foré says of the update:
“We’ve been hard at work this winter addressing issues that you reported and we’ve added a couple new creature comforts along the way.”
For a breezy and bullet-laden run-through at those issues, read on.
