Valentine's Day Wishes to Our Readers
TODAY is an international/global/universal lovers' day - not tied to any particular nation or religion (except perhaps in origin) - and some in the Free software world (like the FSF-EEE) have crafted geeky derivatives or slants.
We do not want to amplify the FSF-EEE (it wrote about this), so instead I'll tell an old love story, which also happens to relate to my relationship (and marriage that turns 12 later this year). I first met my now-wife by sheer serendipity when I was in my 20s. I went to a friend's party and later in the night, after a game of volleyball, she and her friends joined the party. There was a lot of eating, talking, and some music (not too loud).
Perhaps knowing that we have similar background (Computer Science), some people at the party encouraged us to talk, so we did. Hours later I spoke to her about activism and brought up issues like Wikileaks (remember this was in 2012 when Wikileaks was still a hot topic). We took each other's contact details at the end and months later we had our first date, coinciding with Valentine's Day. We had special spaghetti that night (she was not yet vegetarian at that time) and later in the week we met my grandfather for lunch. He had a very positive impression and there was good chemistry in general.
In my personal experience, meeting people in person, speaking to them directly (not "online") is the best way to meet potential partners. Computers tend to get in the way and they let people deceive others.
Anyway, what's your love story? Maybe come and tell us in IRC. █
