Tomeu Vizoso: Etnaviv NPU update 16: A nice performance jump
After the open-source driver for VeriSilicon's Vivante NPU was merged into Mesa two weeks ago, I have been taking some rest and thinking about what will come next.
Automated testing
I have a merge request to Mesa almost ready that will enable continuous integration testing on real hardware, but it depends on solving what seem to be problems with the power supplies of the boards in the HW testing lab. Collabora is graciously looking at it.

New Linux Patches Posted by AMD! RDNA 4 Graphics Coming Soon?
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has just posted a new patch series for Linux. This is expected in preparation for RDNA 4, the next-generation graphics architecture.
For now, these patches don’t tell us much. Simply put, AMD’s Linux team is performing enablement work for an unannounced new graphics architecture. We don’t know when exactly RDNA 4 is going to come out, so hold your horses. Still, this is pretty exciting because the latest Steam Deck 2 rumors suggest it may use AMD’s RDNA 4 as the graphics architecture!

AMD's New Linux Driver Teases Possible Launch For Radeon RX 8000 RDNA 4 GPUs
The graphics card market has one trend it follows in perpetuity, and that is the constant need for companies to develop further ahead than the competition. While NVIDIA has recently been in the spotlight thanks to its GeForce RTX Super GPUs, AMD is not one to sit on the sidelines. Thanks to updates to Linux, we now have a glimpse of a potential future release of AMD's Radeon RDNA 4 architecture.
The AMDGPU Linux kernel revealed that RDNA 4 GPUs will be supported with enabled IP blocks. Graphics drivers, especially for Linux, need a strong backbone for a proper end-user experience, so it makes sense to integrate support as early as possible.

AMD Linux Driver points to 'RDNA 4' coming soon, and the Radeon team moving on from RDNA 3
Rumors are pointing to AMD launching its next-generation RDNA 4 GPUs later this year, with the new flagship Radeon RX 8000 Series card set to be a mid-range offering that will deliver Radeon RX 7900 XTX performance for a fraction of the cost. A potential game-changer that could leave the high-end enthusiast market to NVIDIA alone with the arrival of the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080 coming at some point.
