Rob Knight ☛ Styling RSS and Atom Feeds
This is done with XSLT stylesheets. A truly exciting phrase. I would recommend reading Darek Kay's post on how to do this as well as mine. I won't be repeating everything Darek wrote in his post but I do have some additional details I wanted to note down.

Abhinav Gopalakrishnan ☛ Do I need DSLR/mirrorless camera?
It was a long time coming. As a hobbyist photographer, DSLR felt like the natural choice to capture pictures but the cost of acquiring the lens is where things started to fall apart. I like macro and landscape photography. And the lenses for those don’t come cheap.
Thanks to the strides made in smart phone cameras, I haven’t seen too much usage out of the 70D in over 2 years.

DT ☛ Thunar Hidden Settings
Recently I have tried it again, after having used pcmanfm for many years. After setting everything up the way I like it I noticed that the shortcuts in the sidepane cannot be rearranged (I am used to having devices first, then bookmarks).
After much searching, I found out that it used to be the way I prefer it, but somebody made an effort to change it, and there are currently no plans to make it configurable... 😢
As a small bonus, here is a list of hidden settings you can configure. See what you have: [...]

Tyler Sticka ☛ Footnote Trouble
In print, endnotes (which display at the end of a chapter or section) differ from footnotes. Footnotes appear at the bottom of the same page as the associated passage. Assuming you aren’t holding the page too close to your face, you can see the note and its context at the same time… no page-flipping required.

Redowan Delowar ☛ Rate limiting via Nginx
I needed to integrate rate limiting into a relatively small service that complements a monolith I was working on. My initial thought was to apply it at the application layer, as it seemed to be the simplest route.
Plus, I didn’t want to muck around with load balancer configurations, and there’s no shortage of libraries that allow me to do this quickly in the app. However, this turned out to be a bad idea. In the event of a DDoS1 or thundering herd2 incident, even if the app rejects the influx of inbound requests, the app server workers still have to do a minimal amount of work.

Cory Dransfeldt ☛ I removed Tailwind from my site
I still think Tailwind's a good tool and a fine choice under the right circumstances but, for a site like this (with exactly zero stakes), I don't think it's necessary. I wanted a bit more control, tidier markup, smaller output, less dependencies and one less build step.

Henrique Dias ☛ Moving to Fastmail
Some months ago, I dabbled with the idea of changing from Migadu to a more generic e-mail solution that includes official support for CalDAV and CardDAV. After quite some time procrastinating, I have finally settled on trying out Fastmail.
In the beginning, I planned on only trying out the first month of trial from Fastmail before making a full decision. Somehow, I ended up paying for a full year in advance by mistake. So here we are (I don’t regret it though).

XDA ☛ How to install ADB on Windows, macOS, and Linux
Most of the best phones on the market run Android, and it's preferred by many for being a more open operating system than Apple's iOS. However, several features of Google's OS can be accessed only through paths and methods that are hidden away from the average user. However, many of these capabilities can be accessed by using the Android Debug Bridge (ADB). If you're wondering how to set it up, we're here to help with that.

XDA ☛ How to install NVM on Ubuntu
If you're using Node.js on your Ubuntu machine or any other Linux distribution, you might want to consider using Node Version Manager (NVM) alongside it, which will let you install and manage multiple versions of Node.js and switch between them. This is important because, during the development process, you might come across a project that needs a different Node.js version. That's why today we'll guide you through the process of installing NVM on Ubuntu Linux.
