Devuan GNU+Linux 5 Is Here for Software Freedom Lovers Based on Debian 12
Based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 12 “Bookworm” operating system series, Devuan GNU+Linux 5 is powered by the long-term supported Linux 6.1 LTS kernel series.
New features in this release include the use of the libseat1 library for rootless startx and access to input and video devices, which removes the DBus dependency from xserver-xorg-core, and the enablement of a true Wayland desktop without elogind.

Devuan 5 (Daedalus) Released for the Purist GNU/Linux Users
Devuan Linux is a Debian fork, built by self-described Veteran Unix Admins, that aims to provide a free and open-source operating system without the controversial systemd init system.
First announced in November 2014, with the initial Devuan Jessie release in May 2017, the distro emerged in response to concerns and debates within the Linux community about Systemd’s design, complexity, and its potential to centralize too much control over system processes.

Devuan GNU+Linux Latest Release is Now Available
The developers of the systemd-free Devuan GNU+Linux distribution have made a new release available for installation. This release offers four important updates, which start with it being based on Debian Bookwork (version 12). Next comes the kernel (version 6.1), which offers better support for newer hardware. Then, there's rootless startx, which uses libseat1. Finally, you'll find the Wayland GUI without the systemd elongind, which is used to track user sessions.
This release defaults to the Xfce 4.18 desktop but users can install GNOME 43 and/or KDE Plasma 5.27 from the distribution's repositories.

Version 5 of systemd-free Debian remix Devuan is here
Devuan 5.0 "Daedalus" is derived from Debian 12 "Bookworm", but with the controversial systemd init replaced by the user's choice of sysvinit, openrc or runit.
The latest release of the distro, codenamed Daedalus, came out at the start of the week, just shortly before Debian's 30th birthday. Being based off Debian 12 "Bookworm", released in June, its many components inherit the versions included in that version: for instance, it uses Linux kernel 6.1, which for now is the newest long-term support kernel version.
