Linux Mint Devs Introduce New EPUB Reader and Calendar Apps
Meet Xepub, Linux Mint’s new EPUB reader application providing users with an e-book reading experience similar to that of a Kindle or Kobo device. Xepub lets you navigate between chapters, search the contents of the book, add bookmarks, and quickly navigate between bookmarks.
Xepub remembers your last reading position, and if you select a word, you can easily access the search engines to look it up in a dictionary, find it on Wikipedia, or translate it. The search engines are fully configurable in the preferences, for example if you want to change the URLs.

Linux Mint unveils Clockenstein and Xepub native apps
The Linux Mint head, Clement Lefebvre, has just dropped the monthly development update for August 2026. In it he previews major native app additions including a standalone calendar app named Clockenstein and an EPUB book reader called Xepub.
The upcoming version of Linux Mint 23 will be the first to carry these new apps and it is set to arrive in December around Christmas. Clockenstein (a weird name for a calendar!) will support local calendars, Google Calendar, and CalDAV services like Nextcloud. It will also feature its own daemon and notification agent, this ensures the app stays in sync even if it's closed and sends you reminders that you want.
