Feeding 'John'
For one reason or another, probably some joke dating 10+ years back, we tend to name every squirrel 'John'. Today 'John' (or a 'John') showed up in our garden and started nibbling at the peanut treat we had installed (hung on a tree trunk) for the smaller birds. He kept going at it and we enjoyed watching it, more so after losing our first bird.
Some people call squirrels "vermin" or "pest", but they never did anything annoying to us. Some people call raccoons the same, bemoaning what they do to garbage cans. By that criterion, they could also call stray cats a "pest".
Anyway, squirrels are adorable. █
