New Release of Proxmox and How It's Used With LXCs

XDA ☛ My favorite Proxmox cluster management tool just hit v1.0, and I'm excited
Between its killer virtualization prowess, support for LXCs, and FOSS nature, Proxmox has served as my primary home lab platform for years. With a plethora of first and third-party tools joining the PVE ecosystem each passing day, Proxmox is as useful for the average tinkerer as it is for hardcore server enthusiasts.
Proxmox Datacenter Manager is one such tool that has remained in development for over a year, and even then, its beta release held a lot of promise for folks with multiple PVE nodes. And now, PDM has finally emerged from its beta stage and joined Proxmox Backup Server, Mail Gateway, and Virtual Environment as the fourth member of the PVE family.

XDA ☛ Be careful when using privileged LXCs on Proxmox
Even if you dip your feet into the Proxmox ecosystem just to run virtual machines, you’re bound to encounter LXCs down the line. Despite offering weaker isolation features, LXCs are fairly flexible and siphon a fraction of the resources as their VM counterparts. With Proxmox VE Helper-Scripts repo offering a plethora of useful templates, LXCs are extremely easy to deploy, making them perfect for newcomers with low-power rigs and hardcore server owners alike.
However, you’ll notice that LXCs come in two flavors, privileged and unprivileged, and you’ve got the option to go for either variant. Most initialization scripts typically default to unprivileged LXCs, and you’ll often hear home labbers (including yours truly) advocating the use of these containers. That’s because their privileged counterparts can pose major security challenges, even though they may appear harmless (and more useful) when you’re a Proxmox novice.

XDA ☛ 4 of the strangest (yet extremely useful) Proxmox LXCs anyone can run
Virtual machines aside, the LXC ecosystem is just as wild. And I don’t just mean nested LXCs or hardcore AI-hosting containers, either. With repos like Proxmox VE Helper-Scripts making LXCs approachable to beginners, there are plenty of wacky services you can run on your PVE home lab.
