OpenSUSE ☛ Intel NPU Driver Now Available in openSUSE Versions
With the arrival of NPU (Neural Processing Unit) devices, it has become possible to run LLMs and generative AI applications without relying on a dedicated GPU. In light of this advancement, we began the work of packaging the Intel NPU Driver into RPM for the openSUSE ecosystem. As a result of this collective effort, the openSUSE for Innovators initiative is proud to announce the official availability of this package to the community.

SUSE, a global leader in enterprise open source solutions, today announced a collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enrich the cloud native Linux experience for Amazon Linux. As part of this agreement, SUSE delivers thousands of additional, enterprise-grade open source packages via the new Supplementary Packages for Amazon Linux (SPAL) service. Yet SUSE’s footprint in North America has never been anything close to that of its major enterprise open source Linux competitor, Red Hat, which dominates the Linux and open source market here.
But SUSE’s new chief marketing officer, Margaret Dawson, who began her new job in September, says she is already working to change that scenario and earn SUSE a bigger slice of the pie in the North American marketplace.
