DietPi 9.19 Introduces BirdNET-Go, Expands Debian Trixie Support
Quoting: DietPi 9.19 Introduces BirdNET-Go, Expands Debian Trixie Support —
Nearly a month after the 9.18 release, DietPi, a lightweight, performance-focused Debian-based Linux distro for SBCs (such as Raspberry Pi) and server systems (with an option to install desktop environments), has just unveiled its latest iteration, version 9.19.
The headline addition is BirdNET-Go, a continuous bird-call monitoring and identification system that now joins the DietPi-Software catalogue.
The release also strengthens Debian 13 support across multiple components. UrBackup now uses its official APT repository, which unlocks Trixie compatibility and expands ARMv6 support.

HowTo Geek ☛ Raspberry Pi OS alternative DietPi just got a big update
The DietPi team announced over the weekend an update to its alternative to Raspberry Pi OS. DietPi 19.9 brings a new entry to the DietPi database of optimized software, plus upgrades for other software and some bug fixes.
The difference between those tools and BirdNET-Go is that BirdNET-Go puts a special emphasis on ease of use. It calls itself an "easy-to-deploy alternative" while maintaining the same performance. The goal marries well with DietPi's own emphasis on deploying software on a Raspberry Pi with ease. Because it's officially part of DietPi's collection of optimized software, you can automate its setup on your SBC by just running the preconfigured install script from DietPi's software management tool.
The 19.9 update brings several more general improvements to the DietPi experience. For one, the DietPi banner (the text that appears when you log in) now has better text wrapping, improving the readability on small screens and terminal emulator windows. A fix is also here for DietPi instances running ZeroTier that stopped certain apt upgrade commands from succeeding.

HowTo Geek ☛ Raspberry Pi projects to try this weekend (November 14-16)
The weekend is here, and that means it’s time for another round of Raspberry Pi projects! This weekend, I’m focusing on a mixture of fun and productivity, with projects ranging from receipt printers to running Windows 11.
These projects will vary in complexity, though some can be up and running in just a few minutes, leaving you the rest of the weekend to tinker and play with your new services.
