Linux-ready Meerkat meer10 Launches with Intel Core Ultra, PCIe Gen5 Storage, and Wi-Fi 7
Quoting: Linux-ready Meerkat meer10 Launches with Intel Core Ultra, PCIe Gen5 Storage, and Wi-Fi 7 —
For external devices and displays, the meer10 supports quad-display output through two HDMI 2.1 ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, both with DisplayPort 2.1 capabilities and USB4 support. Compared to the meer9, which offered a single Thunderbolt port, the addition of a second port brings more options for docks, displays, or external GPUs. Front I/O includes dual USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports and a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C, with more ports at the rear for legacy and high-speed devices.
Depending on the CPU configuration, the system draws power from a 90 W or 120 W adapter, just like the previous version and continues to offer full support for Linux distributions like Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, or Ubuntu 24.04 LTS out of the box. The design remains VESA-mountable for flexible placement.

Linux PC maker System76 has updated its Meerkat line of mini PCs for the second time this year. In January the company launched models powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 1 (Meteor Lake) processor options. Now those are gone. In their place are new Meerkat models with support for up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H Arrow Lake processor.
But while the top tier models get a significant speed boost, System76 is also introducing a new lower-cost model that brings the starting price down to $599.

Linux mini PC: System76 Meerkat refreshed with up to Core Ultra 7 255H CPU and 96 GB of memory
Linux enthusiasts will likely be quite familiar with the hardware brand System76, famous for their Linux-based computers that have received mostly positive reviews. The Meerkat mini PC is one such offering, and is now available with more powerful, as well as more affordable variants.
The System76 Meerkat mini PC was previously updated in January of this year, with up to the Core Ultra 7 155H "Meteor Lake" CPU. The product is now available with its successor, the Core Ultra 7 255H "Arrow Lake" CPU. In terms of performance, the 255H is roughly 30% faster than the 155H in multi-core performance courtesy of multithreading on its six P-cores, and 18% faster in single-core performance according to Cinebench 2024.
The System76 'Meerkat' Mini PC Now Has More Affordable Options
In the market for a new PC to replace that Windows 10 computer but want to try a different OS? Linux-first PC and laptop manufacturer System76 has refreshed its mini PC it calls "Meerkat" with better CPU options, including a more affordable configuration.
The Meerkat tiny PC, which comes with either Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or System76's in-house Linux distribution Pop!_OS, can now be configured with an Intel Core 3 100U processor. It has six cores and a base frequency of 1.3GHz, so you're only going to want it if your processing needs and desired footprint are pretty small. Think basic office work, low-intensity servers, or retro gaming. With that option, though, now you can get a base configuration for just $599, which is $200 less than the cheapest option when we last looked at the Meerkat this past January.
