AI Industry Right Now Is 10% Reality And 90% Marketing: Linux Creator Linux Torvalds
Most technologists can’t stop talking about the latest developments in AI, but some people aren’t as impressed.
Linux founder Linus Torvalds has said that the current AI tech industry is 10 percent reality and 90 percent marketing. “I think AI is really interesting and I think it is going to change the world,” he said. “And at the same time, I hate the hype cycle so much that I really don’t want to go there. So my approach to AI right now is I will basically ignore it. I think the tech industry around AI is in a very bad position — it’s 90 percent marketing and 10 percent reality,” he added.

Linus Torvalds is "fed up" with making kernel changes to address faulty hardware | TechSpot
Linus Torvalds is sick and tired of trying to "fix" Linux to work on Intel's faulty processors. In his view, Linux isn't broken, so why should he (and other FOSS developers) fix anything? Intel is the one with the problems. He vented his ire in a thread recently.
Linux Creator Linus Torvalds recently expressed frustration with change proposals to the Linux kernel that are only "required" due to faulty hardware. Phoronix notes that Torvalds ranted on the Linux kernel mailing list over the last week, saying that buggy hardware should not be Linux's problem, suggesting kernel developers just say "no" and see what the "hardware people" say.

Linux Creator Linus Torvalds Calls Out Intel, AMD, NVIDIA & Others For “Buggy Hardware”, Claiming That They Are Behind The OS’s Vulnerabilities
Well, Linux's creator has a way of expressing problems over the OS, primarily when associated with an external factor, likely CPU companies such as AMD and Intel. Torvalds has recently been quite active in fixing the Linux kernel due to reported bugs and crashes. This time, according to him, he has expressed his resentment towards the modifications being made in the open-source kernel to cater to vulnerabilities that are a fault of the hardware manufacturer.

Linux creator names and shames Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD for having 'buggy hardware'
Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, isn't happy with the state of PC hardware right now: calling out "buggy hardware" from tech giants Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD.
In a new post on kernel.org, Torvalds said: "Honestly, I'm pretty damn fed up with buggy hardware and completely theoretical attacks that have never actually shown themselves to be used in practice. So I think this time we push back on the hardware people and tell them it's *THEIR* damn problem, and if they can't even be bothered to say yay-or-nay, we just sit tight".

Linux lead dev says we're only getting 10% reality of the oversold AI hype | Windows Central
If the past few months are anything to go by, speculation is brewing about the trajectory of generative AI in the tech world. This can be attributed to OpenAI's recent financial troubles, placing it on the verge of bankruptcy with projections of $5 billion in losses within the next 12 months. The ChatGPT maker got an extended lifeline through a $6.6 billion round of funding from investors, including Microsoft and NVIDIA, pushing its market cap to $157 billion. However, concerns about AI's future and difficulty establishing a clear path to profitability abound.
Is AI but a fad? Your guess could be as good as mine, but the Linux Kernel lead developer, Linus Torvalds, recently shared some interesting insights about the topic in an interview at the Open Source Summit in Vienna (via Tom's Hardware).
Linux's Creator Linus Torvalds Believes AI Right Now Is "90% Marketing", Saying That He Chooses To Completely Ignore It
This is a pretty interesting take on the AI hype. From a broader perspective, Torvalds' stance isn't entirely wrong here since many of the AI startups are "shilling" the technology without having a proper "AI-infused" workload established. Hence, the hype is definitely top-notch this time around.
The "90-10" ratio by Linux's creator is a controversial take since AI, despite being mainstream for less than five years, has established serious grounds for innovating market segments, notably AI chatbots and automated responses.

Most current AI tech is 90 percent marketing, says Linus Torvalds
Linus Torvalds never minces words when asked to comment on open-source support or the latest technology trends. The Finnish software engineer recently joined an open-source focused event, where he had a thing or two to say about AI technology and "intelligent" algorithms.

Notebook Check ☛ Linux creator Linus Torvalds labels AI industry as 90 percent marketing
The guy behind the Linux kernel, Linus Torvalds, isn’t exactly thrilled about how artificial intelligence is going, calling it more about hype than real-world use.
At the Open Source Summit in Vienna, Linus Torvalds shared his thoughts, saying today’s AI scene feels like “90 percent marketing and 10 percent reality.”
While he admitted that machine learning and generative AI could make a real difference someday, Torvalds wasn’t shy about knocking the surrounding buzz all over. He made it clear that he’s not jumping on the AI bandwagon anytime soon and would rather wait for the tech to mature.
Torvalds said he expects AI to make much more sense over the next few years, with machine learning and generative algorithms becoming more valuable and practical. In his view, we’ll soon have a better idea of what AI can actually do to make everyday tasks easier.

The Register UK ☛ Linus Torvalds: 90% of AI marketing is hype
Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux kernel, thinks the majority of marketing circulated by the industry on Generative AI is simply fluff with no real substance - and it may take many years before the tech is proven.
The reformed potty mouth was speaking at the Open Source Summit in Vienna last month to “video-focused storytelling platform” TFiR when he was asked for thoughts on modern technologies, specifically GenAI. Baidu AI 'bubble' will burst 99 percent of players, says Baidu CEO READ MORE

So, my approach to AI right now is I will basically ignore it because I think the whole tech industry around AI is in a very bad position, and its 90% marketing and 10% reality.
