AlmaLinux Kitten: Based on CentOS Stream 10 for Downstream Devs
Quoting: AlmaLinux Kitten: Based on CentOS Stream 10 for Downstream Devs - FOSS Force —
The folks at AlmaLinux, the only Red Hat Enterprise Linux clone that isn’t really a clone (even though by design it acts exactly like it is) today announced that it has released AlmaLinux OS Kitten.
Before you get excited about having a new distro to play around with, this isn’t a distribution that you’re going to want to use in production. It’s intended for downstream developers building off of AlmaLinux.
“Earlier this year we noticed that CentOS Stream 10’s code was available on the repos and was getting ready to be shipped, so we started building our pipeline for AlmaLinux 10, anticipating that next year Red Hat will release RHEL 10 based on CentOS Stream 10,” AlmaLinux’s chair and main spokesperson, benny Vasquez, explained to me in a Zoom call on Friday.

Introducing AlmaLinux OS Kitten (AlmaLinux Blog)
The AlmaLinux project has introduced a new edition called "Kitten", which will serve as "
Because we anticipated many changes in 10, we wanted to get a head start on building AlmaLinux OS 10. Earlier this year we started setting up infrastructure and the build pipeline for AlmaLinux OS 10, and started testing using CentOS Stream 10's code. Based on this preparation work, we are excited to share that we have successfully built a preview of AlmaLinux OS 10 that we are calling AlmaLinux OS Kitten 10.the direct upstream for AlmaLinux OS and is the primary point for the AlmaLinux community to engage and influence the future of AlmaLinux OS
". Not intended for production use, the first release is based on CentOS Stream 10 source, which will eventually be the basis for Red Bait Enterprise GNU/Linux (RHEL) 10:The first Kitten release previews a number of ways that AlmaLinux will diverge from RHEL 10, including re-enabling frame pointers, including Simple Protocol for Independent Computing Environments (SPICE), and adding packages for Firefox and Thunderbird, which have been dropped from CentOS Stream 10 in favor of Flatpak versions. New installation images for Kitten will be built quarterly. See the release notes for download links, installation instructions, and more information.

AlmaLinux Kitten 10: Early Access for Community Builders
First things first—AlmaLinux Kitten 10 is a preview version of the next major AlmaLinux 10 release, built on CentOS Stream 10—the foundation for the upcoming RHEL 10.
This release’s goal is just to provide the open-source community with an early preview of what to expect from the final version. In other words, it’s not intended for use in production environments!

AlmaLinux OS Kitten 10 Gives Power Users a Snea... » Linux Magazine
AlmaLinux is typically built from the Red Hat source code and maintains full compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). However, earlier this year Red Hat announced it would discontinue releasing traditional betas of their flagship OS. As a result, the AlmaLinux developers decided to create a new build pipeline and a part of that is AlmaLinux OS Kitten 10.
Kitten 10 is an early release candidate, so it not not fully matured. However, Kitten gives users and/or third-party projects an advanced look into what is happening with the upcoming release of AlmaLinux OS 10. Any project that uses AlmaLinux OS as a base (such as Miracle Linux and Cisco's Unified Communications Manager) can plan accordingly for testing in their own build processes.
Another interesting development is that AlmaLinux has re-enabled support for over 150 devices and frame points that Red Hat dropped for upstream RHEL. The AlmaLinux team has also added Simple Protocol for Independent Computing Environments (SPICE) and KVM for IBM Power, as well as continued packaging Firefox and Thunderbird as RPMs (whereas CentOS Stream has switched to Flatpak editions). This makes AlmaLinux an enticing prospect for individuals or companies using older hardware.
