POWER architecture is not just for database servers. While most people know it only for DB2 and SAP HANA, it is an ideal platform also for HPC or other high performance server applications, like syslog-ng. * ⚓ Anton Zhiyanov ☛ Redka:_Redis_re-implemented_with_SQL⠀⇛ I'm a big fan of Redis. It's such an amazing idea to go beyond the get-set paradigm and provide a convenient API for more complex data structures: maps, sets, lists, streams, bloom filters, etc. I'm also a big fan of relational databases and their universal language, SQL. They've really stood the test of time and have proven to solve a wide range of problems from the 1970s to today. So, naturally, one day I decided to combine the two and reimplement Redis using a relational backend — first SQLite, then Postgres. That's how Redka was born. * ⚓ Haki Benita ☛ How_to_Get_Foreign_Keys_Horribly_Wrong⠀⇛ Constraints keep the integrity of your system and prevent you from shooting yourself in the foot. Foreign keys are a special type of constraint because, unlike unique, check, and primary keys, they span more than one relation. This makes foreign keys harder to enforce and harder to get right. ䷩ 𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚎 413 ╒═══════════════════ 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 ═════════════════════════════════════════════════╕ (ℹ) Images, hyperlinks and comments at https://tuxmachines.org/n/2025/07/16/Debian_and_Ubuntu_Leftovers.shtml Gemini version at gemini://gemini.tuxmachines.org/n/2025/07/16/Debian_and_Ubuntu_Leftovers.gmi ⠀⌧ █▇▆▅▄▃▂▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ Debian and Ubuntu Leftovers⠀▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▂▃▄▅▆▇█ ⌧ posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jul 16, 2025 * § Debian Family⠀➾ o ⚓ The Register UK ☛ Gparted_Live_1.70.8_is_out⠀⇛ GParted Live is a tiny live CD image that can copy, move, and resize partitions. Instead of relying on traditional IP-based data transfers that can clog networks, this new function offloads the heavy lifting of the disk copy process from the network to the underlying storage systems. The storage offloading feature becomes increasingly relevant for larger, multi-terabyte disks, as more data is able to transfer to the underlying storage system for faster migrations. Rather than MTV reading the data, sending it over the network and writing it to a new location, the storage array working jointly with MTV essentially transforms the source virtual disk (for example, a VMware VMDK) into an OpenShift Persistent Volume format within the array. Once the volume is available to OpenShift, MTV converts the disk to OpenShift Virtualization format, and then the VM can be started. Any original source VMDK is also available in the event that you need to return to the source.  * ⚓ Red Hat ☛ Exploring_Llama_Stack_with_Python:_Tool_calling_and_agents⠀⇛ Over the last few months, we have explored how_to_leverage large_language_models_(LLMs)_with_Llama_Stack_and_Node.js. While TypeScript/JavaScript is often the second language supported by frameworks used to leverage LLMs, Python is generally the first. We thought it would be interesting to go through some of the same exploration by porting over our scripts to Python.  This is the first of a 4-part series in which we'll explore using Llama Stack with the Python Hey Hi (AI) We will start by looking at how tool calling and agents work when using Python with Llama Stack using the same patterns and approaches that we used to examine other frameworks. § Setting up Llama Stack Our first step was to get a running Llama Stack instance that we could experiment with. Llama Stack is a bit different from other frameworks in a few ways.  First, instead of providing a single implementation with a set of defined APIs, it aims to standardize a set of Hey Hi (AI) and drive a number of distributions. In other words, the goal is to have many implementations of the same Hey Hi (AI) with each implementation shipped by a different organization as a distribution. As is common with this approach, a reference distribution is provided, but there are already several alternative distributions available. You can see the available distributions here. [...] If you have trouble finding an example or documentation that shows what you want to do, using the docs endpoint is a great resource. § Our first Python Llama Stack application Our next step was to create an example that we could run with Python. A Python client is available, so that is what we used: llama-stack-client-python. As stated in the documentation, it is an automatically generated client based on an OpenAPI definition of the reference_API. There is also Markdown documentation for the implementation itself. As mentioned in the previous section, the docs endpoint was also a great resource for understanding the client functionality.  To start, we wanted to implement the same question flow that we used in the past to explore tool calling. This consists of providing the LLM with 2 tools: o favorite_color_tool: Returns the favorite color for a person in the specified city and country. o favorite_hockey_tool: Returns the favorite hockey team for a person in the specified city and country. Then, we ran through this sequence of questions to see how well they were answered: [...] * ⚓ Red Hat ☛ Enhance_data_security_in_OpenShift_Data_Foundation⠀⇛ In our previous_article on Red_Hat_OpenShift_Data_Foundation (ODF), we demonstrated how to configure cluster-wide encryption at rest using HashiCorp Vault as the Key Management System (KMS).  In this installment, we will take that foundation further. However, after 25 years of tight integration within the same repository, that separation is no longer practical. At the same time, these separate licenses have long been sources of ambiguity due to specific clauses and their incompatibility with widely recognized licenses, such as the GPL. It's easy to write, for example, a Go HTTP based web service; you can find lots of examples of how to do it (and the pieces are part of Go's standard library). If you want to write a Go CGI, you're actually in luck because Go put that in the standard library, but you're not going to find anywhere near as many examples and of course you won't get that integration with other HTTP reverse proxy tools. Other languages are not necessarily going to be as friendly as Go (including Python, which has removed the 'cgi' standard library package in 3.13). * ⚓ FOSS Post ☛ Brave_Now_Has_59%_as_Many_Users_as_Firefox_Worldwide⠀⇛ Brave is a privacy-focused web browser based on the Chromium browser, which places it in the same family of browsers as Surveillance Giant Google Chrome, Edge, and Vivaldi. WebGPU gives web content a modern interface to the user’s graphics processor, enabling high-performance computation and rendering. We’re excited about WebGPU because we believe it will raise the ceiling for games, visualization, and local computation on the web. You can find a tutorial on WebGPU at webgpufundamentals.org, try out the WebGPU_Samples, and read documentation for the API at MDN. WebGPU is defined in two W3C standards, WebGPU and WGSL, whose development Mozilla has participated in since it began in 2017. WebGPU has been available in Surveillance Giant Google Chrome since 2023, and is expected to be available in Safari 26 this fall. Although Firefox 141 enables WebGPU only on Windows, we plan to ship WebGPU on Mac and GNU/ Linux in the coming months, and finally on Android. backdoored Windows was our first priority because that’s where the great majority of our users are, but we are looking forward to enabling it on the other platforms as soon as it is robust and our test coverage is adequate. (Your humble author is strictly a GNU/Linux user, so this concern is close to his heart.) Note that WebGPU has been available in Firefox Nightly on all platforms other than Android for quite some time. # ⚓ Mozilla ☛ A_first-party_data_reality_check [Ed: Mozilla sinking deeper in the mud; it's not stating that it won't share users' data]⠀⇛ Part I in Anonym’s Rewiring the Rules Series # ⚓ Mozilla ☛ Let’s_talk_about_data_control [Ed: Excuses for surveillance]⠀⇛ A new series exploring the connection between data protection and performance. ䷩ 𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚎 2638 ╒═══════════════════ 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 ═════════════════════════════════════════════════╕ (ℹ) Images, hyperlinks and comments at https://tuxmachines.org/n/2025/07/16/Wireshark_4_4_8_Open_Source_Network_Protocol_Analyzer_Updates_P.shtml Gemini version at gemini://gemini.tuxmachines.org/n/2025/07/16/Wireshark_4_4_8_Open_Source_Network_Protocol_Analyzer_Updates_P.gmi ⠀⌧ █▇▆▅▄▃▂▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ Wireshark 4.4.8 Open-Source Network Protocol Analyzer Updates Protocol Support⠀▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▂▃▄▅▆▇█ ⌧ posted by Marius Nestor on Jul 16, 2025 🄸🄼🄰🄶🄴_🄳🄴🅂🄲🅁🄸🄿🅃🄸🄾🄽_⦇Wireshark_4.4.8⦈_ While it doesn’t add support for new network protocols, the Wireshark 4.4.8 release is here to update support for the ASTERIX, DLT, DNP 3.0, DOF, DTLS, ETSI CAT, Gryphon, IPsec, ISObus VT, KRB5, MBIM, RTCP, SLL, STCSIG, TETRA, UDS, and URL Encoded Form Data protocols.
