This project, working to support medical offices, shows just how far the free-software effort can reach. Changes in this release include improved reporting and analytics, more comprehensive handling of many types of patient information, a reworked medical-imaging subsystem, better insurance and billing functionality, and more. * ⚓ Ubuntu Handbook ☛ GnuCash_5.12_Released_with_Many_Fixes_&_Improvements_ [Ubuntu_PPA]⠀⇛ GnuCash, the popular free open-source accounting software, released new 5.12 version yesterday. This is the twelfth point release for 5.x release series that introduced various bug- fixes, improvements, and translation updates. And, for Ubuntu users, the “Gnucash packaging team” PPA revived. First of all, GnuCash 5.12 added China Merchants Bank support in security editor. * ⚓ LWN ☛ 15_Years_of_OsmAnd⠀⇛ The OsmAnd map and navigation app project recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. All these 15 years can be roughly divided into three stages. For the first five years, we built the very basic functionality—offline maps and navigation that just worked. Over the next five years, we transformed OsmAnd into a full-fledged application with plugins, extensive settings, and professional tools. We dedicated the third five-year period to deep internal work: completely rewriting and improving key components like the rendering engine and routing algorithms. Now, a new, fourth stage begins. We have reached functional maturity, and our main goal for the near future is to polish what we've already built. We will focus on stability, speed, and consolidation. User expectations are growing, and what was once considered normal must now be flawless. ䷩ 𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚎 202 ╒═══════════════════ 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 ═════════════════════════════════════════════════╕ (ℹ) Images, hyperlinks and comments at https://tuxmachines.org/n/2025/07/02/Audiocasts_Shows_Ask_Noah_Show_Chimera_GNU_Linux_vs_XLibre_What.shtml Gemini version at gemini://gemini.tuxmachines.org/n/2025/07/02/Audiocasts_Shows_Ask_Noah_Show_Chimera_GNU_Linux_vs_XLibre_What.gmi ⠀⌧ █▇▆▅▄▃▂▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ Audiocasts/Shows: Ask Noah Show, Chimera GNU/Linux vs XLibre, What’s in the SOSS?⠀▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▂▃▄▅▆▇█ ⌧ posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jul 02, 2025 * ⚓ The Ask Noah Show ☛ Ask_Noah_Show:_Ask_Noah_Show_449⠀⇛ This week we discuss a proposal in Fedora 44 to remove support for 32 bit libraries. Its main feature is various optional image processing steps to look good on eink screens, which have different requirements than normal LCD screens. Combining that with downscaling to your specific device’s screen resolution can result in file size reductions of hundreds of MB per volume with no visible quality loss on eink. This can also improve battery life, page turn speed, and general performance on underpowered ereaders with small storage capacities. This is free and open source software. * ⚓ Japachar_-_learn_Japanese_characters_-_LinuxLinks⠀⇛ Japachar is an application helps you to learn Japanese characters using a gradual learning algorithm which makes you test-like questions. It keeps a inner score of how much you know a character to give priority to ask you again about it if needed and introduces new characters when you are ready. BETA Kanji support available. It works now without having to install any third party font. So, what does it actually mean to validate a Shiny app? o ⚓ Hackaday ☛ C++_Encounters_Of_The_Rusty_Zig_Kind⠀⇛ There comes a time in any software developer’s life when they look at their achievements, the lines of code written and the programming languages they have relied on, before wondering whether there may be more out there. Here it is, as found in /var/log/messages – this host is a Dell R730 which has drive cages allowing me to insert the drive without powering off the host. * ⚓ University of Toronto ☛ The_"personal_computer"_model_scales_better than_the_"terminal"_model⠀⇛ In an aside in a recent entry, I said that one reason that X terminals faded away is that what I called the "personal computer" model of computing had some pragmatic advantages over the "terminal" model. One of them is that broadly, the personal computer model scales better, even though sometimes it may be more expensive or less capable at any given point in time. But first, let me define my terms. What I mean by the "personal computer" model is one where computing resources are distributed, where everyone is given a computer of some sort and is expected to do much of their work with that computer. What I mean by the "terminal" model is where most computing is done on shared machines, and the objects people have are simply used to access those shared machines. * ⚓ Adriaan Roselli ☛ Check_/_Uncheck_all_in_a_Table⠀⇛ TL;DR: Unless you have user testing results saying otherwise, maybe put a check-all checkbox outside the table. * § idroot⠀➾ o ⚓ ID Root ☛ How_To_Block_IP_Address_on_Apache⠀⇛ Website security has become paramount in today’s digital landscape. Apache web servers face constant threats from malicious traffic, spam bots, and potential attackers attempting to compromise server resources. Learning how to block IP addresses on Apache provides a crucial defense mechanism against these security threats. o ⚓ ID Root ☛ How_To_Install_SQLmap_on_Fedora_42⠀⇛ SQLmap stands as the gold standard for automated SQL injection testing in cybersecurity. This powerful penetration testing tool helps security professionals identify and exploit SQL injection vulnerabilities across web applications. For Fedora 42 users seeking to enhance their security toolkit, installing SQLmap opens doors to comprehensive database security assessment capabilities. o ⚓ ID Root ☛ How_To_Install_Suricata_on_AlmaLinux_10⠀⇛ Suricata represents one of the most powerful open-source network analysis and threat detection engines available today. These issues affect software but also drivers. Take software as an example. Linux forums users are often miffed that common Windows software like Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite aren’t fully compatible with Linux. There are workarounds to using these programs, of course, but they require a little tinkering. Driver incompatibility issues are another common complaint, especially the lack of support by manufacturers for GPU drivers. It seems illogical but GPU drivers aren’t always installed on some Linux distros (the different distributions of the Linux OS) when you first install your system, since standard GPU drivers are closed-source.
