The new Darktable release also makes the Sigmoid module the default tone-mapper selected for new installations and makes the metadata module fully configurable, allowing you to add and maintain any tags that are supported by exiv2. Even though our target platform consists of modern-era transceivers, wfview’s command dictionary is focused on commands with the most compatibility. Many of Icom’s transceivers from the last 20 years will work to some degree with wfview. On rigs with built-in network interfaces (such as the IC-705, IC-905, IC-7610, IC-7850, IC-R8600, IC-9700, and Xiegu X6100), live audio streaming is available for both receive and transmit. Special care was taken in the creation of the network code for very low latency audio — ideal for general QSOs as well as time-sensitive modes such as FT8 and JT65. On the IC-7300 (and other non-network rigs), wfview can serve as a USB to Ethernet “bridge”, connecting the IC-7300 to the network for remote control and live streaming full-duplex audio using another instance of wfview on a remote computer. The server can be a humble Raspberry Pi or a normal desktop computer. However, this time around, there’s an important detail that the distro is reminding users to keep in mind. Here’s what it’s all about. As you probably know, Plasma 6.4 is bringing a notable change for users still on X11—and if that includes you, a quick manual fix will be needed to avoid login issues. With the recent split of KWin into separate kwin-wayland and kwin-x11 packages, the default installation will no longer include the X11 session unless explicitly requested. Previously, Plasma installations automatically supported both Wayland and X11 sessions. However, starting with 6.4, only the Wayland session will be installed by default. So, if you rely on X11, you must manually install plasma-x11-session and kwin-x11 before upgrading—otherwise, you might find yourself locked out of your desktop. Thanks to the ELevate project, an open-source initiative designed to streamline in-place upgrades between major versions of RHEL‑based distributions, AlmaLinux has made the upgrade process straightforward and fully supported. In this guide, I’ll walk you through every upgrade process step from Alma 9 to Alma 10, ensuring you can make the transition smoothly and hassle-free. * ⚓ The New Leaf Journal ☛ Domain-Specifc_Google_News_RSS_Feeds⠀⇛ I have written regularly about using a feed reader to stay on top of interesting articles from around the web. My feed reader of choice at the moment is a Miniflux instance hosted using Pikapods. It works well in the majority of cases, but I have been running into an issue in recent months where a site which I subscribed to or was interested in subscribing to blocked my Miniflux instance from retrieving its feed (in some cases the site advertises its feed). I suspect that the culprit in most cases is Cloudflare or some other bot-protection mechanisms. Back in 2023 I wrote about running into a version of this issue when trying to save articles in Wallabag (an open source read- it-later app) and how I circumvented the problem with the help of the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. Unfortunately, the Wayback Machine does not work for staying on top of regularly updating RSS feeds. Fortunately, I employed a helpful and well- known tool to stay on top of feeds from sites which block my Miniflux instance: Google News. * ⚓ Ted Unangst ☛ vulgar_gestures⠀⇛ Direction set, all we need to do is write the code. On OpenBSD, input is handled by wscons, which is why I run wsconsctl to reverse scrolling direction. So I figure src/sys/dev/wscons is a good place to start looking. A grep for “finger” later, and we’re looking through wstpad.c. The code calls the relevant variable contacts, and some more searching brings us to wstpad_f2scroll, the function that controls two finger scrolling. * ⚓ Jono Alderson ☛ JavaScript_broke_the_web_(and_called_it_progress)_- Jono_Alderson⠀⇛ Most websites are awful. Not just slow – awful. Bloated, fragile, over-engineered disasters. They load slowly, render erratically, and hide their content behind megabytes of JavaScript. They glitch on mobile. They frustrate users and confuse search engines. They’re impossible to maintain. And somehow, we’re calling this progress. The tragedy is, none of this is necessary. Once upon a time, we had a fast, stable, resilient web. But we replaced it with a JavaScript cargo cult. Now it takes four engineers, three frameworks, and a CI/CD pipeline just to change a heading. It’s inordinately complex to simply publish a webpage. This isn’t evolution. It’s self-inflicted complexity. And we’ve normalised it – because somewhere along the way, we started building websites for developers, not for users. * ⚓ University of Toronto ☛ What_I've_observed_about_Linux_kernel_WireGuard on_10G_Ethernet_so_far⠀⇛ I wrote about a performance mystery with WireGuard on 10G Ethernet, and since then I've done additional measurements with results that both give some clarity and leave me scratching my head a bit more. So here is what I know about the general performance characteristics of Linux kernel WireGuard on a mixture of Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 servers with stock settings, and using TCP streams inside the WireGuard tunnels (because the high bandwidth thing we care about runs over TCP). * ⚓ Sven_Hoexter:_Terraform:_Validation_Condition_Cycles⠀⇛ Terraform_1.9 introduced some time ago the capability to reference in an input_variable_validation_condition other variables, not only the one you're validating. ䷩ 𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚎 2238 ╒═══════════════════ 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 ═════════════════════════════════════════════════╕ (ℹ) Images, hyperlinks and comments at https://tuxmachines.org/n/2025/06/21/today_s_howtos.shtml Gemini version at gemini://gemini.tuxmachines.org/n/2025/06/21/today_s_howtos.gmi ⠀⌧ █▇▆▅▄▃▂▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ today's howtos⠀▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▂▃▄▅▆▇█ ⌧ posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jun 21, 2025 * ⚓ How_to_Install_Heroic_Games_Launcher_on_FunOS⠀⇛ Heroic Games Launcher is a popular open-source game launcher that allows you to access and play games from the Epic Games Store, GOG, and Amazon Games on Linux, Windows, and macOS. * ⚓ Own HowTo ☛ How_to_use_pacman_to_manage_packages_in_Arch_Linux⠀⇛ pacman is the default package manager in Arch Linux, knowing how to use pacman is essential when it comes to installing and uninstalling packages. They had a quite large, die-hard fan base in Arc, but they didn't think they could grow that audience into the hundreds of millions of users. They want to do that with Dia, but they also say they want to make money. Nobody makes a mainstream browser and makes money on it, so I wish them luck. I just think they had a better chance monetizing enthusiasts who adored and relied on Arc paying up than your mom or students (the only users they seem to care about now). * ⚓ Manton Reece ☛ Dia_after_a_week⠀⇛ Using Dia is a nice reminder that there is very little lock-in with web browsers. Switching to a new browser is easy. If The Browser Company can’t make their business work, then I’ll switch to something else. * ⚓ Parker Ortolani ☛ On_Dia,_Arc,_and_"People_Don't_Know_What_They_Want Until_You_Show_it_to_Them"_|_Parker_Ortolani⠀⇛ I was absolutely captivated by the Arc web browser from the moment I started using it a few years ago and quickly became an evangelist. It really felt like an entirely new idea for how to use the internet, it was more organized while also somehow being more fun. It became an essential part of my workflow on the Mac and when it first came to iPhone, it became a cross platform obsession. The introduction of Arc Search and Arc Max signaled however, that The Browser Company was thinking bigger. With the advent of AI tools around the same time as Arc was taking off, it was becoming clearer and clearer that the internet was about to change dramatically. Arc continued to improve between 2022 and 2024, but at the end of the year they decided to pivot. Instead of building on Arc, they chose to build an entirely new browser. I suppose apt for a company literally called “The Browser Company." * ⚓ University of Toronto ☛ Quick_numbers_on_how_common_HTTP/2_is_on_our departmental_web_server⠀⇛ Given even this cursory log analysis, I suspect that for our web server, HTTP/1.1 requests are significantly correlated with access from non-browsers, including crawlers (both overt and covert). Again this isn't really a surprise if modern browsers are trying to use HTTP/2 as much as possible, since most people are running modern browsers (especially Chrome). * ⚓ Ruben Schade ☛ Updates_to_the_Retro_Corner⠀⇛ For those of you who haven’t seen it, I maintain a Retro Corner. It started as a one-pager written by hand in HTML3 to list some old parts, but has become a full site itself. It broadly uses the same “theme” I had on my first GeoCities site I wrote in primary school, and later moved to Tripod. It’s very silly. * ⚓ The New Stack ☛ HTTP/3_in_the_Wild:_Why_It_Beats_HTTP/2_Where_It Matters_Most⠀⇛ Despite the promises of HTTP/2, the web still struggles with latency, jitter and real-world network volatility. Enter HTTP/ 3 — not just an upgrade, but a ground-up redesign over User Datagram Protocol (UDP). Based on thousands of real-user simulations and extensive internet performance monitoring conducted by Catchpoint across six continents, here’s what we’ve learned. ╘══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛ ¶ Lines in total: 2506 ➮ Generation completed at 02:50, i.e. 23 seconds to (re)generate ⟲
